Alan,

What error do you get, is it just a problem with recording or doesn't Audacity work at all?

What do you see in Edit > Preferences > Devices ?  And check what you get if you type "cat /proc/asound/cards" (from a shell / terminal window).

I use arecord myself, but if audacity doesn't work, arecord probably doesn't work either.  But let me know if you need any help.
