OK, currently up to 21 contributors - at £21 each that's £441 so far.
 
We have two options:
 
Approach the seller (ideally through Ken Garner) and offer a £420 donation  
(or however much we get) to charity in return for the tapes, with the intention 
 of offering them to the BBC (if they want them) after we've digitised them
 
Snipe the auction at the death for the maximum amount in the kitty, and  
either return the surplus to the donors or keep it as a "fighting fund" for any  
future similar instance.
 
Personally I'd prefer the direct approach - would depend on Ken though, as  I 
suspect the would prefer the tapes to go to the right place.
