What Martin meant was that he uses realplayer to get the proxy URL. This is
achieved by playing the file in realplayer and whilst still playing, you
disconnect from the internet and eventually an error pops up saying error
connecting to URL ......, this is the link that is pasted into Net Transport
for downloading.
It was Martin who taught me this technique. In the past on several
occasions, when the Beeb changed their methodology in creating the actual
download URL, it used to take me hours (sometimes days) to obtain the true
link by trial and error. A real godsend for my creating all of my server
files.

How can I get your RealAudio link to work? Simply cutting n pasting it
into RealPlayer doesn't work, so I guess there's something I should
otherwise be doing?

    the RealAudio
    link is

rtsp://media-rm.ast.cac.washington.edu/kexpspool/200504251800to04260000_2-25
6k.rm?start=00:00:00.000
and this does download with Net Transport

Unfortunately the same method doesn't work with Windows Media Player
because
it doesn't generate an error box with the failed URL in it as the Real
    Player does
