Lossless is always best, and today's cheap backup/storage devices make that an option for the masses that it wasn't 10 years ago, say. Having said that, I think I read somewhere years ago that the old FM broadcasts from the 70's/80's were pumped out at about 192 kbps, so encoding them now at more than that is wasteful. Maybe that is bollox - I much prefer (good audio quality) old FM radio stuff at 320 kbps or FLAC. Btw, I'm listening to the new offering from the Wirral's finest, OMD, and it's as good as their finest hour/years, amazingly...
