What a brilliant time-waster this is!

Mind you, it's solved one puzzle. Listening recently to the Peel show from 29 October 1979, it sounded very much like Jimmy Pursey of Sham 69 was in the studio with John at the start of the show. I guessed that perhaps he'd been on the show prior to Peel's and had hung about. The Radio Times listing for the week shows that Mike Read was on holiday and Pursey "sat in" for him all week (eg BBC Radio 1 England - 29 October 1979 - BBC Genome). The following week it was BA Robertson in Read's chair.

Of course, this is what was planned to be broadcast rather than what really happened but should prove useful.
