Sad indeed, but every cloud…
 Listening to Peel on the World Service via the tractor's tranny in the
tomato fields was a lifeline when I worked on  Moshav in the Negev desert
for a few months in the 80's .

The BBC have always been sticklers for using 'broadcast standard' gear,
which is why I was surprised to learn that much of the later sessions were
output on Minidisc, a format which is a) in my experience horribly
unreliable and b) uses the kind of psychoacoustic trickery that most
audiophiles sniff at, even though subjectively the results aren't too bad.
 I will be watching this auction like a hawk, no doubt only to have my heart
broken by people with far more buying power than me,

You're not alone! Though much better being auctioned than scrapped.
 Am I alone in noting the irony of such a collection of top end AV equipment
belonging to a radio station broadcasting largely at the time on Shortwave?
