Veruca Salt

Ah, yes, a Chicago band. I knew them well. "Seether" wasn't that great, and they never got better, but I had a crush.
The only one I still see is the drummer who plays bass in a local band you've never heard but should, The Hushdrops.
A couple of songs to whet your appetite:

I once was given a tape of a Festive 50 which included Salt Tank, Shellac, Pulp, Nirvana, Wedding Present -even Oasis- and... The Fall (you don't say!!!)

It had a song called 'Seether' by an American quartet (two guys/two gals; they appeared in a Pavement video as a ersatz Pavement).

I realise it's voted-in, but blimey... it really broke the flow for me at the time.

And now I recall the name. Veruca Salt.

I think Zappa did musical comedy much better and the Fall were often funny (sometimes probably unintentionally) esp. with their song and album titles ...

Two major Peel bands that no one has admitted to hating is The Fall and half man half bickie - maybe they are frightened of instant excommunication from the church of Peel - but there must be someone on this here Wiki who doesn't like them... and that was sort of my point. Anyone who cravenly liked everything he played must be lying. His choice was so eclectic that no one could like everything even if they thought they should. ;-)

I think he would have been mystified if someone claimed to have exactly the same musical taste as himself. He would have just been sad if people stopped listening to new music - I remembered he likened it to films once - why get stuck watching the films that were made up until you are 25.

Those two would definitely be my bete noires, and while I'm at it, please add Sheena Easton, Racing Cars, the Incredible String Band and Steveless to the list of those acts John loved but which make me want to stick my head in the microwave every time he plays them.
