BBC Radio 6 Music - Why do they do that?

Bit of a whinge coming on, sorry.

So firstly, it's great that 6 Music is repeating all of this wonderful and sometimes wacky varieties of music they have in their vaults.

But why, oh why do they have to fiddle around and interfere? I don't know if anyone heard it, but I refer to last nights 'Classic Concert' featuring the wonderful Chrimbo Eve, Hammersmith Odeon show from '75 by Queen. Now the vast majority was left intact, but a few lines of Mercury's comments were removed, we're talking here about less than 1 minute total time - it must have been harder to remove than to leave in. That in itself is bad enough, but when they do the actual edit's, they make a right dogs dinner of it, these guys are supposed to be pro's - I could do better myself with Audacity.

I can understand them removing stuff for copyright reasons, legal issues, etc., I can even (vaguely) understand them removing the references to it being Christmas that Mercury made on the original broadcast, but why remove banter with the crowd? Also on other shows, they always edit out DJ Intro's and Outro's and between song DJ Waffle - why? These small things add to the show.

Do they also fiddle around with re-brodcasts of Peel Sessions - aside from the increasingly annoying habit of waffling over some intro's?

Paul.
