Thanks to this I found the tune I was remembering on my first try!
Simply typed 'Nicky Campbell' and 'Christy Moore' into Google and took
a chance. It's 'Welcome To The Cabaret'

Not quite Babes in Toyland or Happy Mondays, but at least now I know.
Thanks for the clue DM.

The other tune from that show I recall: I don't remember really except
it had Van Morrison namechecking 'John Dunne' possibly a little too
often.

'Kinky Afro' from the Peel show before that still remains a favourite, mind.
