  Regardless of what you thought of the song, Saloon should go down in the annals of history as the first band to successfully manipulate their fanbase via the internet to achieve something positive.

  As I recall they did get all the votes required for the #1 spot fair & square, but they did it by email encouraging their fans to vote by the new method (and of course suggested the song they should pick in order not to spilt their vote)

Plus even if you were annoyed by the Cuban Boys, that's better than something bland like that Sundays track right? (*ducks*)

    I really like both Saloon and Bang Bang Machine tracks! Not that keen on the Cuban Boys tho' - bit of a novelty act. It was the variety of Peel's output that was the great thing, so much as I love them, am glad The Fall weren't number 1 every year!

    PS Steve Eagles, formerly of The Photos and then Bang Bang Machine, now plays guitar in Stroud, Gloucestershire sax artpunk institution Blurt (good!) as well as in a blues/metal covers band (very bad!).
