I would like to jump to the defence of The Cuban Boys, who despite their
'novelty' reputation are a band i still listen to regularly and whose recent
singles collection Art Vs Commerce proves they never deserved their
one-hit-wonder status. I also like Rocker have a soft spot for Saloon, although
are there still those who think their victory was ill-gotten?
To be honest i did prefer it when something lesser-known, unpredictable and
Peel-specific got to the top spot, rather than your Anarchy In The UKs or
S(m)ells Like Teen Spirits (the latter of which gets on my nerves anyway despite
my love of Nirvana). Plus even if you were annoyed by the Cuban Boys, that's
better than something bland like that Sundays track right? (*ducks*)

I really like both Saloon and Bang Bang Machine tracks! Not that keen on the
Cuban Boys tho' - bit of a novelty act. It was the variety of Peel's output that
was the great thing, so much as I love them, am glad The Fall weren't number 1
every year!
Cheers!
Rocker
PS Steve Eagles, formerly of The Photos and then Bang Bang Machine, now plays
guitar in Stroud, Gloucestershire sax artpunk institution Blurt (good!) as well
as in a blues/metal covers band (very bad!).
