[peel] Re: Peel and 6 Music?

I do find myself confounded by some of the online hand-wringing I've seen
over this (and yes the constant invocation of Peel's ghost is also annoying)

Prior to the closure announcement you could ask anyone in a band and I'm
sure they'd tell you that a 6music play or a 6music session held nowhere
near the kudos of a play/session on Radio 1 (The PRS payments back this up
too!) because at the end of the day you knew you were on a DAB-only station
with a limited audience. On top of that you stood even less chance of
standing out amongst the droves of indie hopefuls who filled the 6music 24x7
program.

Now the majority voice seems to be suggesting the closure is some sort of
strangulation of the life blood of the independent music sector, but if the
worst that happens is that we have to suffer a few less mediocre bands then
I can live with that!

The key thing is that the BBC do come good on their promise to shift the
best of the 6music shows/DJ's to the main FM stations.
