Remember the request from Ron Geesin that appeared
here last year regarding Bridget's 'lost' BBC Sessions?
Well, I've just been sent a copy of the finished
product on Hux, a 2CD set in a card slipcase with 20 page booklet.
It's a delight from beginning to end. Ron has worked wonders, sound
quality-wise, with the 'raw materials' at his disposal.
Peel makes a couple of appearances, firstly
introducing Bridget's session debut on Night Ride in '68 (taped by BSJ herself
on her kitchen table). Peel's enthusiasm for her music is obvious, almost in
over-the-top fashion for him ;-)
He also pops up when he introduces BSJ's In Concert
set from May 1975 (a rare appearance for him on In Concert by that stage),
contributing an amusing anecdote about 'sleeping' with BSJ.
The 4 BSJ tracks from the JP Presents Top Gear 1969
lp are included, as are 3 tracks from a Jan '76 Top Gear session.
"The Present Song/ Pig & Peel" from an August
'74 Top Gear session concludes the collection.
I know that the 'noise-mongers' among you won't be
interested in this, but Peel called BSJ's music "Balm for the ears", and so it
is :-)
PS--Kevin Ayers fans/ completists should note
that he, (and David Bedford & Mike Oldfield) appear on several
tracks from a Jan '71 In Concert.
