I loved BASEMENT 5.. One of the louder bands I saw of that time
I liked the 1965-80 album but a few months later they released an "in dub" version of it which PEEL played quite a bit..
There was a track "Paranoia Claustrophobia Dub" that really sound great on the old FM
The session was repeated on BBC6 through the night last night
It can still be heard on the listen again for 26 January

Never got to see them live...but I did like the LP. Produced by Martin Hannett! A couple of their live shows have appeared on DIME recently. Think I've spotted the LP up as mp3's somewhere online as well...it's long out of print.

Basement Five were fantastic live. Saw them 4 or 5 times around that time, then they released a disappointingly tame LP and that was that...

Anyone remember this lot? I thought I had a single by them, but after
hearing this session I figure I must have been confusing them with
another early 80's outfit. Anyway, this is rather good.

Whilst researching whether or not any of this had been released, I found this:
http://www.myspace. com/therealbasem ents
I'm not clear why a band that broke up nearly 30 years ago needs an
"official" myspace, but this is so damn good they certainly deserve a
place on the internet. (And the Peel session listing on the myspace
page doesn't seem to imply an official release - I could find no
trace, in any event).
