Mark's Mixtapes: a request

Hi Mark

I was interested in your comments about the Dolly Mixtures and the Police: informed and revealing as usual. However, the article from Q Magazine (April 1989) that recently appeared on 'Fades In Slowly' has John Walters giving a different side of things:

"The Police were another of my big regrets. They'd been on at Peel for ages, buying him pints of lager and so forth and eventually he succumbed and they did a session, but for me it was retro. It wasn't the sort of sound you wanted to hear on the Peel show. You knew it would probably be very popular and sell millions but it wasn't right for us."

Best wishes
Steve [TK]

Dolly Mixture theme song. The Locomotion. Hes Frisky. Deam Come True They are all here! And my favourite - New Look Baby...

The Police never were or wanted to be a Peel band - ersatz new wave. But it was repeated whilst Dolly Mixture who were the epitomy of a Peel band never was.  Two Dolly Mixture were still chuffed to bits when recalling the recording of teh session event 30 years later. This was  at a showing of a film about them shown at the barbican in the last year. They were just disappointed that it didn't launch them into stardom as they thought would happen after all they had been on the John Peel show! Heavy irony here ...
