Martin

thanks a real treat for me - sounds not brilliant but very "live" - brings back memories of small gigs in pubs and student bars at the beginning of my musical obsession in 80/81. The sound was always crap but added to charm. shame we dont hear what Peel thought but as I recall they didn't say much between songs when playing live so adds to charm - Ernie ball ... Dolly Mixture theme song. The Locomotion. Hes Frisky. Deam Come True They are all here! And my favourite - New Look Baby...

It was broadcast with a repeat of The Police Session - interesting as some see this as one of the few instances of Walters/Peel misjudging band. The Police never were or wanted to be a Peel band - ersatz new wave. But it was repeated whilst Dolly Mixture who were the epitomy of a Peel band never was.  Two Dolly Mixture were still chuffed to bits when recalling the recording of teh session event 30 years later. This was  at a showing of a film about them shown at the barbican in the last year. They were just disappointed that it didn't launch them into stardom as they thought would happen after all they had been on the John Peel show! Heavy irony here ...

Mark
