You could be right! The signal sounds consistent, just lofi - I did ask but
he actually couldn't remember whether he recorded them from am or fm - as you
suggest, it may just have been onto one of those mono cassette recorders that
most of us old enough will have owned as kids. And as I said, the cassettes
themselves are fairly bogstandard.
And yes - we need to decide who's going to rip these, and how we will keep a
record of what we have. I am capable of setting up a simple spreadsheet in
Excel with details of which tapes I send to whom - may I suggest that we also
have a standard format spreadsheet for each tape, so that info and tracklistings
can be recorded and sent to the group by each person as they rip the tape.
Quite a few of the tapes have a handwritten index card with tracklisting and
broadcast date.
Also we really should ensure that this archive of tapes doesn't stay spread
around the country (the world?) - may I suggest that each ripper agrees to mail
the tapes back when done - Initially to me - & then we need to decide long
term where the tapes should be kept.
Have already had a few offers of postage & packing money so funding this
should not be a problem - I could put return postage in with each package. Have
yet to decide how to send them out - I have quite a few jiffy bags which would
be easy to post, but would only take 2 or 4 tapes or so at a time - actually
maybe this is best in case any packages get lost in post - or should we pay
extra to register each package? I guess it would possibly be safer to restrict
postage to UK only unless we find that we do not have enough ripping capability -
what do people think?
Cheers!
