Anyone care to play "Name That Tune"?

Hi all,

I was contacted via Kat's Karavan recently by a fellow who was trying
to place a tune he'd taped from Peel in about 1974 (probably from a
session). I didn't start listening till about 1979, so I was unable to
help him, but I wonder if anyone here would like to have a go?

All the usual stuff has been tried: googling lyric snippets, guessing
likely titles, matching them to mid-70s artists, crossing off artists
from the "1974 sessions" list on the BBC Peel page, and so far nothing
fits. So I just wondered if anyone who fancies themselves as a mid-70s
Peel buff would like to have a go? There's no reward, apart from the
warm glow of smugness that would undoubtedly ensue. Plus the
satisfaction of helping a guy who's been on a quest to identify this
tune for over 30 years, of course.

An MP3 of the tune can be grabbed at:

To help out, I've transcribed the first couple of verses and the
chorus. It seems to be either called "Practical Man" or "Song For
You". I'd describe the genre as "soft rock".

I'm not a practical man,
But I do most things the best that I can,
For you.

You were a magical girl,
And you changed my ways,
In a matter of days
With you.

So here's my song for you,
It should be sung by two,
It's what I always prayed,
I had nothing else to do.

Any ideas, folks?

Cheers,

Eddie.
