As long as your amp is within reasonable range of your computer
a lead (tape out to line in) has advantages

(1) You've got more control over the signal (all your amps controls)

(2) You can send any signal that goes into the amp - radio, tape
anything to your computer to digitise - not just the vinyl

(3) You can go the other way - a lead (line out to tape in) lets you
put the computer sound through your hifi speakers

And of course if you are really up market and have all the necessary
inputs and outputs on your amp and computer you can do it
all digitally. Personally my ears are old and the highest of fidelity
would be wasted on them (even if the original vinyl and tapes
were sparkling quality in the first place which they obviously aren't)
