I have to agree with you, Neil, although I have been really enjoying Raz's show - it's a nice contrast in between the other two, and his friendly style mixes things up nicely.

I'm enjoying his selection of music, and think that 'urban' music (whatever that is exactly) needs to be reflected in the One Music shows. When you think of the grief John used to get decades ago for playing 'black' music, and how that music ended up cemented in popular culture some years later, it has to be worth sticking with Raz's choices of music - even if Grime and other new genres aren't quite your thing. You only had to listen to the Annie Nightingale 'Keeping It Peel' mix by the Digital Mystiks to realise that there's definitely something new to offer from not always listening to guitar-based 'alternative' music (much as I love some of it, of course).

Hi All,

I posted something on here about my opinions to Ras's show about a week or so back (which didn't get a response, so I guess you all agreed!! :-p), so I'll try not to repeat stuff here. However, I think it's clear that, whereas Huw and Rob are settling in amongst the existing Peel listeners and bringing some of their own, Ras's show just seems to be an extra show for his existing listeners and I think it's more helpful to think about it like this. As Louise has said before, Ras is highly respected in what he calls the "UK homegrown" Urban world and I am not going to argue with that. I'm trying to think about it as Huw and Rob gathering up the Peel listeners and with Ras Radio 1 are simply opening up the slots. Ian Parkinson of Radio 1 said that there was no way they would be able to have someone replace John since, as we all know too well, there was only one John. What they wanted to do was to continue John's work as best they could and for me it's difficult to know how they
could have done better. Even though I don't really like Ras's show (more his style than his music), I have a lot of respect for what Louise and Hermeet are trying to do and I do end up with one or two tracks that I want to seek out, which is no bad thing.

Remember, a huge, unexpected explosion changes the view to the horizon. It's now a matter of appreciating the new view! Better to do that than to draw the curtains and pretend the old view is still there! Mind you, we should never forget what the old view looked like!

Erm, ... have I just started talking bollocks?!

With best regards to all,
Neil
