Drumbo said that when Beefheart and The Magic Band turned up for their
first tour they were met by customs officials who demanded to see some
work permits.  Their tour manager had told them all to pretend to be
hear as tourists but they weren't believed so they got thrown out of the
country on the first available flight (to Frankfurt).  Peel managed to
do some (unspecifed)stuff at this end that allowed them to re-enter the
country and do the tour.
 
According to Drumbo, anyway....
