wow - an unexpected pleasure. Morley was the intellectual writer at the NME. Wrote about Joy Division with reference to Baudelaire, dialectical materialism and the like. I look forward to an encounter with John - who was more blokish but also knew pretentiousness when he saw it. Personally I used to look forward to Morley's live reviews and singles one liners. He was often wrong but worth a read and one of the reasons I subscribed. His excursion into pop and zzt was particularly memorable. I think he wrote a manifesto for the label. it was those sort of times. MarkSent from my Samsung device
