Okay I thought let's look them all up... I knew Rick Buckler was running a 2nd hand furniture shop and that he'd recently written a book about The Jam. But I was worried for Danny Kustow who recently had a flat beneath my mates ( I say recently it was 1993 ) and there were about 300 milk bottles outside it... rumours were that his mental health wasn't great.... but no he was fine. Then I found singer Jimmy Edwards had been posting things online as recently as 2014. Looked him up on wiki.... dead !... died in 2015 and had been a singer in the 60s. He was 34 when he was in Time UK so quite old. So... the other guitarist... also dead ... in 2012 this time..... it was all a bit unsettling. A lot of the new wavers are starting to shuffle off. Think about it though.... you could have been very young in 1977 and still be gone 60 years of age now. Time UK indeed. From johnpeel3904@... Fri Feb 2 01:14:09 2018 From: johnpeel3904@... I can see no reason why those who want to can't do that but there are existing fora they can use so why not chat there. You could always point people towards tapes you had posted on here. That way we can spread the word. I can see how frustrating it can get on here with no one responding or recognising the hard work that some put in but we are (largely) a group of obsessive old men who are probably like me quite taciturn by nature. It would be great if you could share. The John Peel Wiki is where we catalogue the shows, the tracklistings and availability. Each calendar year has a page such as this http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/1976 and a list of shows shared comes lower down the page, as well as links to shows where only tracklistings are available. As far as uploading goes we generally use the Mooo server – see this page http://mooo.peelwiki.com/dl/incoming/Upload.html It is password protected but it tells you what the password is when you go there. Then its either a choice of ask for an ftp access (useful for lots of shows) or a direct upload link which doesn’t need a password, but it takes the server owner a day or so to make the file available. There’s lots more shows available for download there or from links on the Wiki. To be honest, a site like John Peel will not attract the numbers like a Star Wars forum, because John Peel is mainly known to people who are above a certain age from the UK and perhaps maybe some European countries, but is not generally known worldwide. In other words, a forum like Peel is not always going to be active, like some people want it to be, compared to a Harry Potter, Star Wars, etc forum. Let's be honest Peel followers numbers are small. Three years later, the show would be totally devoid of any "old school" rock unless listed in the NME list of new-wave-friendly acts eg Iggy Pop. I certainly don't think he'd have played the Cates in 1980 ! It was really prog / heavy rock 69-78 that dissed singles - led zep famously never released a single in the uk ! I remember the upset when the Pistols put all their singles on the LP, maybe that was down to mr branson but I'm sure Johnny could have vetoed the greedy decision. I think that with punk/new-wave, both the singles and albums held equal anticipation - I remember looking forward to and cherishing the first Magazine LP and also bought their single in early 79 before their eagerly-awaited second LP. With a lot of 80's and 90's Peely-type music eg the great Cocteau Twins and Orb, LPs became paramount again - "Heaven or Las Vegas" and "Adventures beyond The Ultraworld" are two of my fave albums of all time !
