Great job, sounds great, many thanks Bill for the tweaking, and Steven for sharing the tape ! There's a tiny dropout between 41:49 and 41:50 mins but maybe there was a tape flip or summat. I'll never hear a greater musical contrast than the first two songs here. Johnny Moped's snarling, reductionist punk, that makes the Pistols sound like Abba, then the cultured, dreamlike, hyper-musical Pink Floyd, ha ha. Peely says here that "Holidays" is his least fave Pistols single whereas 2 years later, as per Berlin Eddie's latest tape from Jan 1980, he says it's his fave ! Hey, we all change in life. Here, in 77, Peely seems to say that "God Save" is his fave Pistols single. Personally, it's my least fave because it's a bit nasty towards a fellow human being ; it's got to be "Pretty" and "Holidays" for me, but the album is quite rightly a worldwide rock classic ! The reggae on this tape is good but I'm sure there was better (heavy dub) stuff in 77 ; I liked the Althea and Donna number at the time, think it did very well in the Top 20. The Neil Young song is a bit of a dirge, probably great if you're drunk or stoned. The Motors were great, pity they were so short-lived... Pity no Buzzcocks or Stranglers. I find that the quality of the recording makes a far bigger difference to subjective audio quality than say the difference between a 320kbps mp3 and flac. Anything taken from DAB or DSAT is already lossy so I don't quite understand the BBC's reluctance to accept mp3. On 8 September 2017 22:52:27 BST, "billfromnorthwales@... The Evolution of John Peel "Ever since he came off the pirate ships and joined Radio 1 in 1967, John Peel was a champion of new, exciting and occasionally challenging music like no other DJ. Today BBC Radio 6 Music lives on in that pioneering spirit, with its presenters continuing the passion and love he showed for new music. Mary-Anne Hobbs presents the first show in this five-part series, which this week covers the 1970s. Highlights include Tyrannosaurus Rex performing live for John at the BBC Paris Theatre at the turn of the decade, a legendary Peel session from Joy Division, reggae and roots from Culture, Swedish punk from Attentat, and the band Peel frequently cited as the best in the world, The Undertones." http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0940wlb starts Sunday 13:00 andy rder:1px solid #d8d8d8;font-family:Arial;margin:10px 0;padding:0 10px;}#yiv{background-color:#e0ecee;float:left;font-family:Verdana;font-size:10px;pad -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
