Managed to rip a few more tapes last week as follows: From the SL Tapes http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/SL_Tapes_(tapes)#L601-L623, from L604 the entire session portion of 23rd December 1985, for the first time, so completing the show and correcting the track order. L605 then contained just select elements from the F50 bit of the show and of the 25th so was not shared as already available in complete form. L610 included 92 minutes of new show 21st May 1986, with Pigbros, and Ivor Cutler in session, which features a particularly memorable line. (Votes on a postcard please if you work out which one!) Finally for now, another in the KevH Series http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/KevH_Tapes_(tapes), Tape 6, recorded from Peel Shows in February and March 1981. Sessions include Red Beat from 12th Feb, Out On Blue Six from the 17th, Modern English from 2nd March, Siouxsie And The Banshees from 9th March, Altered Images from 10th March, and Penetration from the 11th, all of which add to the existing shares from these dates. From L615, around 70 minutes of 17th December 1986, slightly clearer than the earlier complete share. From L616, 35 minutes of 23rd December 1986, mainly from the sessions part of the show, and a sound upgrade over the other shares. From L617, the final hour of 29 December 1986, including F50 20-11, slightly clearer sound than earlier shares but with a weak FM signal. From L618, believe it or not the 10th file to cover the 30th December 1986. This is 67 minutes from the start of the show, missing just one session track but I ended it at the point my own tape of the show starts, as this tape could not match the sound quality of that one! Nonetheless the SL Tape is the best sounding tape of the first half of the show. The ideal master version would be File 8 (this new one) (with session tracks patched from Peel Sessions 10 & 11 and tape flip from File 1) followed by File 2. Tucked away at the end of L615 was a 15 minute segment of new show 18th February 1987. L619 and L620 weren't shared as they were a couple of F50 shows from 1987, already shared in better quality. L621 contained the last half hour of 26th October 1989, a slight sound upgrade, but the rest wasn't shared as it was another F50 show already shared in better quality. L622 was an Andy Kershaw show from 14th December 1991, while L623 was a 72 minute section of already shared Peel Show from the same date, in slightly better quality than the other shares much of the time. Finally L624-L627 were the last of the Dance series of mixtapes, largely available from the main SL Tapes as Steve had by then started to save the complete shows. A short file of tracks not available from the main tapes has been created. So that's it, apart from most of Ken's L121-L140 and Roger's L333-L347 batches - which I'm willing to help out with before beginning the next project. There is a section described as 'WLIR Live Radio Broadcasts from the 1970s'. I was not looking for Peel, but while browsing I spotted the name 'Tyrannosaurus Rex', and thought who else can that be? Sure enough, there were sessions described as 'John Peels Top Gear Sessions'; some from 1969, some 1970. On playing them however, this may not be completely accurate. They may all be from 'Top Gear" but not necessarily shows presented by our hero. There are no links anyway, just the music, but one that I listened to had an introduction, by Brian Matthew. There are a truly staggering number of shows here, but it will take some searching to identify the Peel Sessions. As a reminder these are high quality off air recordings mainly of Peel sessions, generally with Peel's outros intact, from the early 1980s. TAPE 7 Tape 7 starts off with the first play of Wah!'s second session, from 14th April 1981, adding a track to the Derby share of that date. Next up Killing Joke's 3rd, from its debut play on 27th April 1981. Only 1 track was previously available from that show, funnily enough one of the KJ tracks. Then Flock Of Seagulls debut as broadcast on 12th of May, full show previously available. A bit of a rarity on side 2 - the debut of Out On Blue Six from 24th June 1981, new for that date, and only 1 track has previously been shared from the repeat show, though there may be Youtube shares, not checked. Then a repeat of the Scars 2nd session, from new show 29th June 1981. The only previous share documented here of that session was from the debut play, Kev's Tape 4! (Youtube and 17-DVD torrent excepted). The tape is rounded off with the Skodas debut of their only session, adding a track to the Derby Box show of that date, and probably a good sound upgrade for that last track from what's available from the repeat. TAPE 8 starts off with a session and a half from Pauline Murray. Looks like Kev taped a partrial session from the debut play on the 31st March and taped the whole thing from the repeat on the 15th April, though Shoot could have come from either show. A lack of outros means we don't know which....Next Bauhaus - a repeat of their 1979 session as broadcast on 29th July 1981, 2 tracks new for that date. Ruts (DC)'s 4th session debut from 10th March 1981 rounds of side 1, adding a track to the Derby share. Side 2 goes back to 1980, and most of Joy Divisions 2 sessions from their repeat play on 23rd June. Of course these sessions are widely available. The first actual share from this show, but no outros, and in any case Peel was sick this week and it would have been Paul Gambaccini anyway. Another archive session from Siouxsie & the Banshees, as broadcast on 25th August 1980, 2 tracks new for that show. Finally a couple of tracks from Comsat Angels session on 2nd September, adding to the shares for that date. More to follow.... From stuartb@... Thu Jan 26 17:11:00 2017 From: stuartb@... John repeats his story about not believing that the demo the band doorstepped him with wasn't a record by an established act.... Side 1 finishes with a repeat of Josef K's 2nd session, from new show 13th July 1981. Another rarity starts Side 2, Restricted Code's only session, from the debut on 17th March 1981. A long session so the final track is missing, though a cryptic note on the inlay suggests it might be on another tape. Tape 24 starts with New Order's debut on 16th February 1981 (show already available) followed by B Movie-s debut on 7th April, previously separately shared by Kev. Side 1 finishes with a couple of non-session tracks form unknwn shows.
