From Kev to Lee with a bit of Gumtree

As one project comes to an end another one begins.

Postpunktastic KevH Tape 62 is mainly from the Christmas period 1982,starting with Sex Gang Children's first session, three tracks from first repeat on 30th November 1982 (adding some SQ to that complete show) with the final track from the second repeat on new show 28th February 1983. Spear Of Destiny's only session from 14th December 1982 adds SQ to that complete show. Sisters of Mercy's debut makes another appearance in the F50 show of 21st December, adding to the availability of that show, as do Dance Society's on the 27th and
Southern Death Cult's on the 30th. Finally a couple of tracks from Rubella Ballet's second session from new show 8th February 1983.

(I was quite re-converted to early Goth after all that!)

The final KevH Tape 72 (wonder what was on 63-71?) contained both sessions from new show 19th May 1983, Skeletal Family then a Magazine repeat. Damned, Slits and Buzzcock repeats from Mark Ellen's May sit in week rounds off the collection, show dates unknown. KevH tapes http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/KevH_Tapes_(tapes).

A couple from the Gumtree Tapes http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/Gumtree_Tapes_(tapes), first a mostly new section of 25th June 1993, and a newly stereo version of half of 7th May 1994.

Now possibly the biggest project begins, the Lee Tapes http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/Lee_Tapes! These were semi-sorted and numbered by Lee, though as the tape inlays are blank this must have been difficult, so they start off in a semi-random order.

The first two are from December 1987, and feature a mix of on-the-fly pause button edits of Mike Allen's National Fresh Hiphop show, which ran from 1986-88, as rebroadcast on Viking Radio, in quite good quality, plus tape to tape edits of mainly dance/hiphop experimental and reggae from the Peel Shows, which don't sound quite so good (so a little bit of a stylistic and technical jump from the KevH tapes!).

What I've done is separate out the Peel stuff, created pages based on these and Mooo'ed the audio, but kept a copy of the full audio to send to Lee when I return the tapes. If anyone is desperate to hear the unedited versions then I could put them up on the Mooo for a limited time.

The third tape is from 1995, and is a more traditional Peel compilation from January to February 1995, all I did was change the order very slightly as it seemed to be recorded from about 20 minutes in to side 1 with two tape flips and ending at the same point on side 1. Removing the wraparound resulted in a chronological sequence. Some new content and the sound is also better than the 1987 tapes.
