But "Revolutionary Spirit" certainly sounded like a cross between Joy Division and the Bunnymen, a true classic. For that they should be very proud. The band It's Immaterial (great name) were also from Liverpool, must check out the song mentioned, it will probably come back to me. China Crisis (also from Liverpool) were similar - I've not heard anything by them to match the nice "Black Man Ray". Likewise the Lotus Eaters and Black (RIP). Is it a Liverpool thing? Only joking, it's quite common. Even Bunnymen stuff sounds quite dated these days, although the early stuff I heard on Peel was/is good eg "Over The Wall". I've always thought that the best Liverpool music 78 to 80's was the first Teardrops album (still sounds fresh, a true classic, the best thing by far Mr Cope has ever done) and the first two Flock Of Seagulls albums (if you like synth-rock-pop)... They have a bigger back catalogue to chose from too - for instance I don't often hear Joy Division apart from Love Will Tear Us Apart. Shadowplay and Interzone are still my favourites ... Listening to Cerys at the moment and she still plays a good selection of stuff I don't hear elsewhere - so there are exceptions. Young Tom does a good job too ... Seems to be a diktat to interact with audience, have guests and do "features" which takes up a lot of time. John Peel did this too but with the same style he did with everything else - eg Peelenium, competitions, reading our requests, faxes etc  - just to have accept we won't see his like again and continue with our self-appointed task of building a full record of his legacy so others can discover it too. The first and last quarters of 27th November 1993 were found on L507 and L508, which was handy as the Isector share had missed the start and end of the show, so that's it complete. L509a and L523a contained the first 90 minutes of 13th November 1993, slightly extending availability and improving on sound quality over the Pates Tapes share. A couple of complete Andy Kershaw shows in the dedicated Mooo folder, the 27th November from L507 and L525, and the 4th December from L508, L526 and L380 (any separate files from L380 can now be discarded). Usual SL Tapes page and Mooo pages apply. Now it's time for a wee service of the Nak, it's started to crinkle tapes at the start of a side, this can be heard at the start of the AK show of 4th December. Probably needs new pinch rollers, according to a man coming to take it away next week. I'll see how the SL Tapes sound with the back-up Denon, but if noticeably worse, then there will be a pause in ripping until the Nak is back up and running. Senseless Things in session plus a live recording from Sharon Shannon taped by Andy Kershaw. And I will probably go back and rerip the start of the 4th Dec AK show too.... Elsewhere the 1983 Eddie Berlin BFBS tapes are complete up to the end of February, thanks to JP3904 for helping out with the wikification Stuart From stuartb@... L510 and L528 contributed towards 1hr 50 mins of 10th December 1993, covering a 10 minute tape flip in the 500 Box version. L530 and L531 contained much of 11th December, previously available complete, but this is a slightly better recording. L511, L532 and L533 contained most of 18th December, which when combined with the earlier share, now completes the show. Complete Andy Kershaw shows from 13th November and 18th December complete this week's shares. All available at http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/SL_Tapes_(tapes)#L501-L600 Note the few "Not Shared" shows - mostly non-JP/AK/Mixing it R1 or R4 content. Also I didn't see the point sharing a partial mono version of the June 4th show when it's already available complete in HQ stereo, likewise the 25th December F50 show is already complete in high quality. One day I might go back to these to check on tape flip gaps but prefer to concentrate on the tape backlog for now! (does that sound familiar ...) Anyway that's 1993 completed from my batch of SL tapes (but I think there are still two other batches to be completed? Hint Hint Firstly the 4th December 1993 has been fully uploaded now, plus the 11th December is now complete from an SL tape perspective, L530, L531 & L538 contributing, though was already available from another source. L535, L537 and L539 all contained Mixing Its from various years. L522 was an Andy Kershaw in Malawi special from 8th June 1993 (part 2 of a 2 part series) L540-L543 was a New Year's Day spectacular with the last few minutes of the last ever Adrian Juste show segueing into the Andy Kershaw Pick of the Year show, followed by John's first 1994 show, now complete for the first time. L529 and L544 provided most of an Andy Kershaw show of 8th January 1994. http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/SL_Tapes_(tapes)#L501-L600 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/SL_Tapes_(tapes)#L501-L600 A few tapes have not been shared, firstly there were quite a few empty sides, or sides ending with Mark Tonderai/Mark Radcliffe/Johnny Walker or random classical music shows, also a few Peel shows where the complete show is already available in full in excellent sound quality. Instead I did a few more Derby Box Memorex upgrades, http://mooo.peelwiki.com/dl/Stuart/Derby%20Box/?C=M;O=D http://mooo.peelwiki.com/dl/Stuart/Derby%20Box/?C=M;O=D In other news, a mixtape from a new source, not much new on this mixtape but the VCF track is, and is great http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/Ewan_Tape_2 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/Ewan_Tape_2 Also JP3904 has discovered on Youtube the Crazy World Of Arthur Brown session as broadcast on 28th April 1968 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/28_April_1968 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/28_April_1968 Eddie Berlin's 1983 BFBS shows are up to April, and Pates Tapes continues to re-up the Peel Shows onto the new Soundcloud version of his site. More of a newsletter than anything else.... anyway hope most of you can find something to like in all of that! Stuart From johnpeel3904@... Mon Oct 31 15:36:56 2016 From: johnpeel3904@... Date: 31 Oct 2016 07:36:56 -0700 Subject: John Peel's last two VPRO shows available Message-ID: Hi Folks I've managed to get hold of the last two John Peel's VPRO shows from 1986 (24th September 1986 and 1st October 1986). The first October 1986 show was his last ever for VPRO. Thanks to Sylvester for sending them. Both shows consist of the first 45 minutes (i.e. the last 15 minutes of the shows are missing) and the audio on both shows does skip quite abit, but it's worth listening. Shows are available on the Peel wikia site. From JP3904
