I notice the page for 22 Aug 79 says most of the show is on tapes T132/3 which were never shared so I'm guessing they're the ones that disappeared.

    Hi Rob
Thanks for the Russians snippet, great quality but shame it's so short. We've been looking for the repeat broadcast for ages, do you know if the rest of 22 August 1979 is around somewhere. Stuart has said in the past that there was a tape of it that went to someone to convert & he disappeared but we can't remember  if that was from the Derby box so we still live in hope.

This week's installment of the Derby Box from me. Quite a disappointing selection with almost all shows having been previously shared.

DB096 & DB097 contain the full show from 06 August 1979
Sessions from Jimmy Norton's Explosion and The Rezillos
Almost the whole show was shared previously from the 400 Box
Mooo

DB097 then contains 1 hour 10 minutes of the show from 09 August 1979
Session from The Cravats
Whole show already shared previously from the 400 Box
Mooo

DB098 contains 47 minutes of the show from 13 August 1979
Sessions from Steel Pulse and Loudon Wainwright III
Almost the whole show was shared previously from the 400 Box
Mooo

DB098 & DB099 contain 1 hour 34 minutes of the show from 15 August 1979
Sessions from Cockney Rejects and Gang Of Four
Whole show already shared previously from the 400 Box
Mooo

DB099 & DB100 contain the full show from 20 August 1979
Sessions from Merton Parkas and The Vapors
90 minutes of the show already shared previously from the 400 Box
Mooo

DB100 & DB101 contain the full show from 21 August 1979
Sessions from Nikki & The Dots and The Piranhas
PREVIOUSLY UNSHARED - HURRAH!
Mooo

The very end of DB101 contains 2 and a half minutes of the show from 22 August 1979
Session from The Russians
Previously unshared (for what it's worth!)
Mooo

Nearing two-thirds of the way through my batch of the Derby Box and here is the news..

DB091 contains the first 47 minutes of the show from 16 July 1979
The last 40 minutes of the show was previously shared from the 400 Box, so this Derby Box section is a completely unshared portion. Sessions from Purple Hearts and Leyton Buzzards
Mooo

The rest of DB091 and DB092 contain the first 1 hour 10 minutes of the show from 17 July 1979
No sessions, an all records show. Previously available in full from the 400 Box
Mooo

DB092 and DB093 contain the full show from  23 July 1979
Sessions from Tubeway Army and UK Subs. Not only was this show available in full from the 400 Box, but it has also been previously remastered by SIG from the 400 Box tapes.
Mooo

DB093 and DB094 contain the full show from 25 July 1979
Sessions from Secret Affair and The Expelaires. Only a 22 minute segment from the middle of this show has previously been shared from the 400 Box, so this is a treat
Mooo

And finally the remainder of DB094 provides the missing 25 minutes from the start of the show on 30 July 1979
The rest of this show was shared right back at the start of the Derby Box project, as it was one of the reference tapes that Chris gave me to test before we made an offer on the whole lot. So now we have the full show in wonderful Derby Box quality
Debut Sessions from The Police and Psychedelic Furs
Mooo

Cheers

A shorter Derby Box update today, given the fun and games I had with DB090 (now all sorted)

DB088 and DB089 contained the full show from 27 June 1979 which was already available in full from the 400 Box
Sessions from Leyton Buzzards and The Raincoats. The usual sound upgrade
Mooo

DB089 and DB090 contained a new unshared show from 09 July 1979
Sessions from The Chords and Gang Of Four. Despite the tape problems the show is complete at 1 hour 59mins
Mooo

The remainder of DB090 contained 42 minutes of the show from 12 July 1979
1 hour 16 minutes was previously shared from the 400 Box, but this new rip contains the opening track which was missing from the 400 Box version. Session from Agony Column
Mooo

Enjoy

More Derby Box today, including my first complete tape shell disassembly. One the tapes had somehow twisted over completely in the case so the whole thing was playing backwards. I toyed with the idea of recording it like that and reversing it in SoundForge but that felt like cheating, so I dug out my tools and experience learned on my "tape maintenance training programme" (AKA the 400 Box)

DB084 & DB085 contain the complete show from 5 June 1979 which was also present in the 400 Box, albeit 10 minutes shorter and lower quality. Session from Magazine
Mooo

DB085 then contained one track from 6 June 1979 - which is from the Yachts and contains John's back announce but that's it. The only method of dating this one track is that Chris wrote it on the original track sheet and highlighted it was from that date. There is currently no other recording or tracklist from that date to confirm it though.
Mooo

The rest of DB085 and DB086 contain the full show from 11 June 1979 which was also partially present in the 400 Box and the Hinton Box, but here we have the full show in decent quality. The Undertones in session.
Mooo

Also on DB086 is a brief 13 minutes of the show from 14 June 1979 which has never been shared before
Only 4 tracks including one track from The Ruts session
Mooo

And finally the remainder of DB086 and DB087 comprise another full show, this time from 18 June 1979 although sadly another show that was already in the 400 Box and the Hinton Box, but a sound upgrade nonetheless.
Sessions from Wayne County and The Specials
Mooo

Cheers again Rob.

For info the 4th June show is named 29th May on the Mooo.

Re the Fuji muffle, your symptoms confirm to me that the Fuji pressure pads and/or springs have deteriorated. Most decks can't maintain enough tension to keep the tape tight against the head to compensate for a faulty pressure pad unless it is a Nakamichi which actually lifts them out of the way.

There might be better tension just at the point you press play as quite often when you put a tape in at first the deck will tighten the tension by rotating the capstan(s), just to reduce the chance of loose tape feeding into the deck. But you will only get the benefit of this extra tension just as you press play.

If you keep a note of the worst tapes then I don't mind having a go at them after we've completed our halves of the box.

Stuart
