Hmmm. The Grateful Dead single was released on 7th November 1975, so promo versions might have been available by the 28th October when the Caravan session was repeated. And Ommadawn is 36m 31s long. Can he just have been referring to Mike “Mouldie Oldie” Oldfield though the golden gasser comment is strange. Grinderswitch was first used on 29th September.
So slightly conflicting clues but I think they converge on the 28th October.

Sounds like he recently started using Grinderwitch as the signature tune
I thought it may be 28th October 1975 but nothing seems to fit (a Caravan session followed by a 37 minute "rather special Mouldy oldie" the next day..
Not a play of Ommadawn by Mike Oldfield)
Any ideas?
