I have a feeling that pubs used to shut at 22:30 on weeknights (possibly depending on local laws?) so if they were gigging outside Sheffield they might well have heard the end of the show on their journey home.

I used to record the show every night with a timer switch on a reel-to-reel tape that lasted 64 minutes, so I could leave the pub at chucking out time, and get home to flip the tape before I went to bed.

Sadly I then used to copy the tracks I wanted to keep across onto a cassette, carefully editing out Peel's links, so I could re-use the reel tape (was a poor student then) (In many senses).

Thank you! I was just curious as to whether Pulp were able to hear the
first time their first recorded track "What Do You Say?" was played on
Peel or not as they were gigging that night.
