But remember JP was always flying in the dark but he knew he was right to like the music he likes .   Yes as technology allowed him to connect more immediately with his audience he embraced it - fax, email etc. but for most of his career he had to depend on people writing letters and postcards  and sening in tapes and I recall many times him revealing his insecurity as to whether there was anyone out there listening and if they were whether they liked what they were hearing but at other times being bloodyminded about that with an "I dont care what you think" attitude that marked him out from the others.   mark\  From: "billfromnorthwales@... Many thanks to Dirk for these. 11 May, 18 May and 25 May complete the available files for that month in 1996. Many thanks to Carsten as usual. Altogether, over 7 hours of previously unavailable Peel recordings, which in my opinion should be downloaded ASAP: the onset of a nuclear winter of online radio seems to be upon us. And we care. Remember how they were the same about illegal taping in the 70s and 80s? Now they find that the TV and Radio companies were just flogging tins of beans and didn't see any value in preserving old shows, suddenly they change their tune and the criminal tapers are now seen as heroes preserving a legacy. We just have to keep our heads down, and keep every show we can get hold of for posterity. Rocker -----Original Message----- From: stephen phythian theallnewadventuresofspp@... Date: 31 Jul 2014 10:19:25 -0700 Subject: First new R1 content for 6 weeks! Message-ID: though the first few Rich tapes were dupes so just some potential sound upgrades. R168 contained the first half of 15th June 1991 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/15_June_1991. The complete show was already available from the Phil series in variable quality and the first half was also previously shared by Alan in high quality though missing a track and the news, which are present on the Rich tape. R169 was not as advertised from the 16th of June but contained another 47 minutes of 8th June 1991 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/08_June_1991 which has now been combined with the recently shared file for that date from R167. So now that is a 141 minute file, and a sound upgrade. Side 2 contained the first quarter of 9th June 1991 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/09_June_1991, again a sound upgrade. R170 contained the first half of 16th June 1991 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/16_June_1991. Again the complete show was available but this is a sound upgrade. R171 brings us some long awaited new content, the first half of 22nd June 1991 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/22_June_1991. The show is now almost complete, just missing the first minute. R172 adds about an hour of new content to 23rd June 1991 http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/23_June_1991 including John's live interview and acapella doo-wop session with Riff. Many thanks again to Rich for donating these tapes to the group! Stuart
