Okay, now I can confess... about 20 years back, while my 8-Track recorder was still operational, I recorded all my Strange Fruit 12-inch singles into clunky chunky sound. I've not played them in ages, but I do remember the metallic thunk midway through the Slits session.

This straight to vinyl chain was last used in the mid-70s, I believe, in terms of regular commercial releases (although there have been other recent experiments of late, I know). To me, the adrenaline rush of a one-take approach to recording is an ideal way of retaining both spontaneity and the 'interest' of the artists. Stops them over-thinking the recording too, I reckon which can produce stale outings. What do you think?
