Maybe I've been lucky with my 30+ year old cassettes but so far all of them have been absolutely fine.  Back in the day I invariably bought TDKs - either AD, AD-X (or occasionally OD while it lasted until someone at the company probably thought the suffix might cause offence) as they were only pence more than bog-standard brands but a whole lot more reliable.  Anyway, back to the the subject of In Concerts (well, not strictly In Concert programmes as such) if anyone wants Lemonheads (R1, Sheffield Sound City 8/4/93), Kristin Hersh (R1 Glasgow Sound City 4/4/94), Hole (R1 Brixton Academy 5/95) just shout and I'll do them this coming weekend.
I know I've also got some actual R1 In Concert recordings in the house somewhere (but just need to look them out if anyone's interested) Dog Soldier (?/74), Whirlwind (29.3.80), Stray Cats (12/80), and Split Enz (1980)..
