Here's a New Year's Day treat for all the John Peel fans on the list. It's mostly a bunch of In Concerts, as follows: 19761106 E L O 19770115 Jess Roden Band (Peel intro) 19770122 Santana 19770219 Jethro Tull 19770910 Blue, Radio Stars 19770917 Pirates, Clayson & The Argonauts 19771029 AC-DC, Otway And Barrett 19771217 Alberto Y Los Trios Paranoias, Splinter 19780121 Gentle Giant 19780325 XTC, Steel Pulse 19790113 Lene Lovich, Wreckless Eric, Rachel Sweet 19790303 Sham 69, The Members 19790616 Dave Edmunds & Nick Lowe, Lew Lewis Reformer 19790623 The Tourists, Police I've cross-checked dates against the Wiki http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/1977_In_Concert & all appears to be in order - the 29th October 77 show being AC/DC and Otway & Barrett as per Sight & Sound listing rather than SAHB as per Radio Times. Haven't played them all yet, but the ones I've dipped into are perfectly acceptable quality. I suspect most if not all of these are already in circulation (and I've still completely failed to properly engage with the Mooo), so I won't upload any of them unless requested. However...... there was also something labelled up as 'Rod Stewart Xmas concert'. A bit of research indicates that this is in fact the first hour of the Peel show from 24-12-76. http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/24_December_1976 I present it here for your delectation, and for the technically capable to add to the canon. Caution: It's somewhat underpowered in the volume department, a rather (for my money) uninspired & uninspiring concert, contains not a word from the man himself, and features a drum solo.... I can only hope that the next batch contains the second half of the show, which would be an altogether more interesting proposition... If you want to know what In Concert we have so far you can click on THIS LINK Then when it asks for a user type in peel, and when it asks for a password type in group. Then you can download by your normal way..right click if using Windows.. and there ye go. Have you got a Mooo account? That is easy too (if you want instructions just ask!) Not had one fail myself, but I would guess that the mechanical bit is the most likely thing to have failed. Can't help thinking that it must be really difficult to set and keep the correct azimuth (tape-to-head angle) with this set up too, so it may actually be better if it's seized up (as long as it keeps working)! I can't believe I had this and didn't even know it! :-) Sorry but I've no idea what the unidentified tracks are. It's also a shame that the recording cuts out before the end of "Teenage Kicks" - and I reckon that there's something else missing in between the Silvertones and the Ramones, because I'm sure there should be 3 versions of "In The Midnight Hour" - a contention which is supported by the fact that the Silvertones version ends suddenly about half way through and the first few bars of "I wanna Be Sedated" are missing.... A priceless recording nevertheless! There was a time in the late 80's early 90's when he was on TV quite frequently. Now I can't remember the last time I saw him. That mantle of clever word-play quickfire one-liners seems to have been taken in the UK by the likes of Tim Vine and Milton Jones, but they approach it from the wacky/silly angle. Wright's almost comatose performance was way better in my opinion On 9 January 2013 19:51, haze_harrison wrote: > John has forwarded the tapes to me and I'll be getting them sorted in the > next couple of days. I thought they might be of interest to fans of the Top 40 or Tommy Vance - I can't imagine there's legions of Simon Beast fans. Anyway, clips are as follows: 30 July 1983 (9:43) Source: MW Number 2 song (Freeez) then chart rundown 20 - 2 and the #1 song (Paul Young) Presented by Tommy Vance. Plus handover to Annie Nightingale. 3 Dec 1983 (3:56) Source: FM mono Top 10 countdown then "Britain's number one" (Billy Joel). Presented by Tommy Vance. 10 Dec 1983 (18:54) Source: FM mono Wham then into the top 10 with Marilyn, Slade, Thompson Twins, Billy Joel. Presented by Tommy Vance. 14 Jan 1984 (10:43) Source: FM mono The top 3: Status Quo, Howard Jones, Paul McCartney (preceded by top 10countdown). Presented by Simon Beast. Note - dates of the chart are taken from the official Top 40 website. These are not the dates of broadcast, which would have been the following Sunday after the date that the charts were released. The tape in question was a cheapo unbranded one. I recorded these things on a Binatone radio / cassette player that had a nasty habit of chewing up tapes; particularly cheapo unbranded ones. Evidence of mangling can be heard on a few of these clips. Also, the right-hand stereo channel was often littered with dropouts on the recordings so I've mastered the FM ones as a mono file. Evidence of mangling can be heard on a few of these clips. Also, the right-hand stereo channel was often littered with dropouts on the recordings so I've mastered the FM ones as a mono file. The source was mono FM anyway. > > > Files are on the mooo server here: > > http://mooo.peelwiki.com/dl/dr_mango/Top40/ > > > Dr Mango > From makulaturverlag@... I thought they might be of interest to fans of the Top 40 or Tommy Vance - I can't imagine there's legions of Simon Beast fans. I recorded these things on a Binatone radio / cassette player that had a nasty habit of chewing up tapes; particularly cheapo unbranded ones. This hasn't been shared before. The List of Shows on the wiki shows what is available. This show in fact it wasn't even in the Radio Eins tracklistings! Looking at these and cross-referring to the UK shows I think this one is probably from 10th January 2002.
