Message-ID: I was speaking with a reggae 45 collector here in the USA and the name of Tony Rebel came up. I specifically remember Peel playing an excellent 45 by Rebel called "World In Confusion." It actually had a little skip in it for which he apologized. It was played I believe on both his FM and SW shows in the mid-1990s. Now this collector is quite interested and enlisted a few friends to search for it. The fact that I have a couple of reggae experts unable to verify the existence of this single make me wonder if I might have the title wrong Anyone? Also, while I'm here, I again want to recommend an Atlanta radio show "The Stomp and Stammer Radio Hour" - 2 hours actually - Sundays 3:05PM to 5PM eastern US time via 1690wmlb.com. The show is really a throwback to Peel's style... a bunch great new tracks of varied genres - screeching, ethereal, powerpoppy, you name it, wisely chosen, most of it maybe 5 minutes old. My show is still Tuesdays at 7PM (midnight UK for most of you) ... but this Sunday show is better. tom in atlanta From saipanda@... Sun Feb 17 09:27:50 2013 From: saipanda@... I enjoyed punk rock rolling out in front of me. I used to listen to Peel back then (either until I fell off to sleep or the folks silenced me!) but my recollections are vague. I am interested if anyone has song listings from the shows in the last quarter of 1976/first half of 1977? I am, in a way, writing my memoirs and punk rock was the first significant event of my life. I split this into 4 parts – intro, the US influence, 1-2-3-4 1976-1980, and 1980s – punk evolves. The latter 3 are straightforward but I need to work on the transition. As Peel was the only DJ to champion the new movement, his playlists would be helpful. TIA Tim From antoniaforestforever@... Mon Feb 18 04:52:49 2013 From: antoniaforestforever@... As Peel was the only DJ to champion the new movement, his playlists would be helpful. Can't help you on the actual playlists unfortunately (though I'd be fascinated to see them too), but I do know that Billy Bragg first heard "Anarchy in the UK" when he was specifically listening to hear a High Level Ranters session, which has always fascinated me from the perspective of parallel folk movements that have more in common that either would have wanted to admit at the time. (And makes me regret more than ever that the framing of 6Music & 1Xtra, along with the absence of Peel, prevent any one show today from playing, say, the Unthanks and Trilla next to each other, but that's a whole other issue ...) It was originally recorded on HiFi VHS then copied to MD. It's spread over 3 files as this was a 4 hour show. I've rather lazily just copied the 3 minidiscs as they were. File 1 starts at the beginning of the show and ends with a fade out just as Pavement start their live set File 2 backtracks to the beginning of the Pavement set so nothing is lost and fades out during the Spiritualized track File 3 starts later on through the Spiritualized song (there is some of the track missing, I must have had to swop the VHS tape over, but hey, everyone's got "Ladies and Gentleman..." anyway, haven't they?). http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?wxcntevwnc89n0l http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?pl6cdynphlb2g7n http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?rrrfc1lb4ma3dzf Mark From dutch_record_59@... It was originally recorded on HiFi VHS then copied to MD. It's spread over 3 files as this was a 4 hour show. I've rather lazily just copied the 3 minidiscs as they were. File 1 starts at the beginning of the show and ends with a fade out just as Pavement start their live set File 2 backtracks to the beginning of the Pavement set so nothing is lost and fades out during the Spiritualized track File 3 starts later on through the Spiritualized song (there is some of the track missing, I must have had to swop the VHS tape over, but hey, everyone's got "Ladies and Gentleman..." anyway, haven't they?). http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?wxcntevwnc89n0l http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?pl6cdynphlb2g7n http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?rrrfc1lb4ma3dzf Mark From zomgqashiyo@... I am in town midweek every other week, either tue or wed evening. Could meet at Euston or London Bridge for a handover. I'm happy for someone to come and pick them up. There are approx 130 which should be directly recorded from JP shows. I couldn't say if these are complete shows. There are about 50 where i've taped the songs i liked onto another tape. There will be many sessions in these. I have listed the songs on many of these. There are a few which may or may not have JP shows. There are 2 Gary Crowley shows !! They won't have been played for a long time (if at all since recorded) so i have no idea what the quality is. I reckon all the cassettes I have weigh about 14kg, so with packaging that puts them in the 10kg to 20kg band which is £21.90. And allows for approx 5kg of packaging. If you didn't want any of the above that could cut down the postage. Maybe to £18.80.(if max 10kg with packaging). Interestingly the tracklistings written on the inner sleeve seem to bear no relation to the album, but are Peel sessions. The first, starting with "A man's a man for life" is the third session by Five Hand Reel, recorded 25/05/1977. The second, below it, is the only session by The Rumour, recorded 23/05/1977. The upside-down lists are for sessions by Genesis (their second, recorded 25/09/1972) ,and The Tyla Gang (Their first, recorded 30/05 1977). The "Forward On To Zion" album came out in 1977 as well, so I guess Peel was using the sleeve to work out the timings for his shows for the first week of June that year. Not sure why the Genesis session is there - does anyone know if it had a repeat around then? Or maybe they had recently split? Cheers!
