As I've mentioned in the past, and as some of you know, it's about having the proper head alignment on playback. Of course it would be perfect using the original recorder, but one rarely has access to that. I've never optimized the playback alignment for a reel to reel, but I expect it's similar to a cassette. I'd be happy to give pointers, and I expect there is info via the web too.

Hi Mike,

You are probably correct (about using the original machine) but I get pretty good results from my Akai R2R connected to the computer via the hifi (which also handles my cassette rips - some more Friday Rock Shows will be avaialble soon by the way)
