Thanks Roger, but I don't run a Mac either! I was after a method for 
Linux (Fedora 15, to be exact). I eventually found this solution: 
http://lyncd.com/2011/03/lossless-combine-mp3s/

Personally though, I don't mind split files, because as long as they're 
named in alphabetical order, most of the devices and utilities I use 
will just play them in sequence anyway.
