I was therefore sceptical that it existed, but then I received a comment on the blog today from someone saying that the Nico track came as part of a Rip, Rig & Panic session I thought this was a bit odd - but looked it up in the book and sure enough Nico is credited as doing vocals on track 3 "Pullover No Sox" (not Saeta though..) As for the Luxy details, as far as I recall, in the NME weekly TV/Radio guide it listed Peel's show until the end of July, but I suppose it's very possible that the show might have come off air earlier than that and the NME guide wasn't amended for a while. Exhibiting his usual great judgement about "popular" music. Ms Shaw was equally disparagingt the other day on desert island discs. However one of my mix tapes does have him playing covers of this song (although not the original) so maybe he changed his mind about the song if not this version? Versions in 81 were by Big Hair and URoy. Interestingly (but only to very sad obsessive like us!) I have just used the search facility on Wiki which revelas he replayed teh Big Hair version again in 1990 in a retro show when he picked his fave tunes from the early 80s. So he definitely forgave the song!   Anyway many many thanks for this aural treat. In 1967, March 26th was a Sunday, the 25th was a Saturday. Neither were a Wednesday. The very first news item (the most important) was headlined "The Railways". It was all about the British Transport minister, Barbara Castle's decision not to axe as much of the rail network as had previously been planned. Mark reports that she is saving over 3,000 miles of railways from getting the chop. That decision was actually announced in the British House of Commons on Wednesday, March 15th. See: http://hansard.millbanksystems.com/commons/1967/mar/15/railway-network-map I think what happened in the studio (possibly in poor lighting at night) was simply that Mark Roman was struggling to see the date, and he misread the "1" in the date (15th) as a "2"." Message-ID: <2fb40.5cd869cf.3a6d7b5f@...> Hi All - As you probably know I'm co-ordinating a few of our ongoing projects to digitize Peelshow tapes. At present the 400 Box is 95% finished, the Lowson tapes are just started, and our new venture into reel-to-reel technology, the Decktician tapes, is all ready to go. The main expense is postage - for most rippers I send out batches of tapes using prepaid special delivery envelopes (apart from the occasional time we save money when I meet someone in person, eg when I DJ in London or attend the same festival). My earlier appeal for funds was in August 2008, and raised £440 - there is now just a tenner of that left, so I reckon that averages out at just under £1 per tape ripped. (and 12 tapes a month). So if anyone wants to help, your contributions are all appreciated! You can PayPal funds to me at this address: rockerq@... When you make a payment, PayPal allows you to enter a message to me - please include your name, and say that your payment is for Peel Group or similar, as I use my Paypal account for several other ventures! Also, in PayPal choose "Gift" rather than "payment for goods" as this means PayPal will (I think!) not charge us for the transaction. If anyone wants to pay in any other way email me offlist! Cheers! Rocker PS if anyone is UK resident, and has the capability to digitise cassettes or reel tapes, message me if you'd like to join the ranks of rippers! From stuartb@... R Clyde might not have been that far fetched, Billy Sloan and previously Brian Ford did have some overlap with what JP was playing at the time, but as said previously, their concert programmes mainly concentrated on well established acts. --- In peel@yahoogroups.com, "ken" wrote: > > more just in: Michael says definitely 1985, definitely originally for radio scotland... > k > > --- In peel@yahoogroups.com, "ken" wrote: > > > > Michael Rooney says: "this sounds like an in concert type thing we did with stuart cruickshank for bbc radio scotland's beat patrol- i think him producing the show and david batchelor doing the mix if i remember", which sounds plausible to me. Would really be great if people can contribute by helping on the wiki. All the show pages should already exist and can be clicked on from the links on the main 400 Box (tapes) page: http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/400_Box_%28tapes%29 To edit an tracklisting page, click on the red Edit button near the top. Just add the info, then preview and save. You can add internal/external links using the chain-like icon (link!) in the Text Appearance section at the top of the editing window. SUGGESTION: If you start editing a tracklisting date page, please add and initial track or two and then put a note saying "Editing Underway" or similar. That way we don't get people wasting time doing the same page at the same time. Looks like Stuart already has the 17 April 1979 show in hand. If your tape deck is the one you recorded them on, things become quite simple, in that you shouldn't have to worry about the problems that can arise from playing back on a different deck. For example, tape running too slow, too fast, a different Dolby level, and squee-whiff azimuth tracking, the latter two of which can cause tapes to sound muffled. All you need then, is a copy of Audacity 1.3.9 Beta (open source) and a twin phono-plug to 3.5mm jack to connect the cassette deck to the PC. Depending on your motherboard or sound card, you should be able to choose "Line In" in the record section of Audacity, failing that "What U Hear" though in the latter case you will need to mute Windows sounds to stop browsing click or email notification noises coming through. Test one of the tapes for volume, if things are configured correctly the sound level bars will move on Audacity, just make sure that the peak levels remain below 0.0 or else the sound will clip. The sliders control the sound level. You can edit the resultant Audacity project to remove any tape flip gaps etc, then export to mp3. (You will need to download the lame mp3 encoder for Audacity, it's just a file, that Audacity needs to know where it is before it can encode to mp3). Then by getting a free account on Mediafire you can upload these tapes, and post to the group! There are tracklistings for these programmes on the wiki http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/2000 If it is not the same cassette deck you recorded from then I would be happy to perform the task as my deck has a pitch control and easy azimuth adjustments.
