In some cases the first is assembled from two or more separately recorded segments - I was short on tape in those days, I guess, and not averse to liberal use of the pause button. 22/12/80: http://www.mediafire.com/?tmmmzjnyjzk 23/12/80: http://www.mediafire.com/?25gwozwztjw 24/12/80: http://www.mediafire.com/?jzza43ozhln 29/12/80: http://www.mediafire.com/?mqamkilywtw 30/12/80: http://www.mediafire.com/?imgftnjnmfm 23/12/81: http://www.mediafire.com/?zltmndvzjmt 24/12/81: http://www.mediafire.com/?gnz2121jnnz 28/12/81: http://www.mediafire.com/?unjvtnmmkw2 29/12/81: http://www.mediafire.com/?zm12kme5xdg 30/12/81: http://www.mediafire.com/?yymmv1wwynl 14/04/82: http://www.mediafire.com/?gl4zytejyzr [fragments only] 15/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?x50ymtnzuko 15/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?zrzgqmmktzj 16/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?jmwo5cwdmzj 16/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?qtjh3ddizrw 20/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?zcddnzckw2m 20/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?yuyynj3mwio 21/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?2yny5hrt2f1 21/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?otznm1b3mmn 22/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?njngznhmdd4 22/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?l0emyyumyhw 23/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?yjtyd0jmmtv 23/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?1jw4nkwmrgg 27/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?zmyjuuimzgj 27/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?z1nnnyvyu2x 28/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?ndodmmmzm0r 28/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?gul5lid5zgj 29/12/82: http://www.mediafire.com/?njzyoyqqcvj 30/12/82 (1): http://www.mediafire.com/?3irhkmmdnzw 30/12/82 (2): http://www.mediafire.com/?wmdmgnotyut I also present a couple of different copies of Peel's Pleasures shows from 1981 and 1982. The 1981 one features the legendary "The fleet's lit up" recording in its entirety. In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Ray, I for one cannot thank you enough. A year and nearly three months ago I started on a personal quest to catalogue all the Festive Fifties that hadn't been done (which is now finished), and regretfully had to note that in the 1981 FF, 28 December was missing. Then you come along and make what has been a very painful day (I had a tooth extracted this morning) into a field of sunshine. Thabks for that and all your other files too! I agree the SQ is very good. Don't worry about the wiki, I've already started on that, as I'm on a few weeks break from digitising at the moment. I'm sure others will follow! I notice that most of the 1983 and 1984 FF shows on the wiki have only the F50 portions available so anything more complete would be fab, the same of course applying to later years. Do you have any more from 1983/1984 at other times of the year? As I stated earlier, I have FF shows going up to 1990, with some of the later years apparently complete (i.e. including all session tracks). I'm going to work on 1983 next, so I'll let you know what I find shortly. I also have some FF tapes from 1979 but I'm saving them until last ;-) Alas I only have one or two tapes that would appear to be non-FF shows - haven't listened to those yet though. I did notice an error in one of the tracks I uploaded yesterday - 16/12/82, part 1, is missing 6 minutes of audio at the beginning - an error in pasting segments from different tapes together unfortunately. I'll fix that presently. Ray --- In peel@yahoogroups.com, "Stuart" wrote: > > Ray, what a gift to the community! I'd also be interested if you have a full version of 1988, because the version I have has the first bit of the fourth show missing (covering numbers 20-18). After that, I'd only need the last bit of the first 1992 show (numbers 39-41) to complete the set from 1980 onwards. Cheers, Eddie. The recordings I've already got of the 1983 and 1984 festive fifties have one or two gaps (eg between #28 and #27 in 1983, and Peel's intro to #50 in 1984) and the files you've posted contain the missing bits - as well as being excellent quality. Awesome stuff - I can't wait to hear the rest.... Do you really have some of the 1979 festive 50 as well? I've remastered all of the 1979 off air festive fifty recordings that i've got - which match what is on the John Peel Wiki page, ie [brief introduction from Peel prior to #50], 49-48, 47, 44, 34-33, 31, 30, 28 [part], 27-26, 22, 20, 19-16, 14-11 and 10-1. I've got all the other tracks, so at least I can listen to each countdown in decent quality with interjections from Peel's dulcet tones whenever available. However, it would be great to create a more complete version.... Thus these are less complete that the recordings already out there, but do have decent sound quality (all mp3s are 256k stereo, as usual): 22/12/86: http://www.mediafire.com/?ef2vjymwgmi 23/12/86: http://www.mediafire.com/?kmldngtj1bt 24/12/86: http://www.mediafire.com/?mzmrynwznnw 29/12/86: http://www.mediafire.com/?dlmzbhlhm2h 30/12/86: http://www.mediafire.com/?cy5yldztdew I also came across this partial show from early/mid December 1986 - have been unable to date it precisely, but it seems to be some sort of "Peel's Favourite Sessions of the Year" show. Sound quality is a bit hissy. Contains some excellent Miaow tracks that I never tire of listening to... ??/12/86: http://www.mediafire.com/?qzowjtnjzue 1987 Festive Fifty is complete, 5 x 2-hour shows. I patched in 30 seconds or so per show from the recordings currently out there (which incidentally all run 2-3% too fast) to cover tape flips. These are large files as a result and each is split into two pieces to satisfy Mediafire. 22/12/87 to 30/12/87 (5 shows, 10 pieces): http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=0add6239b8b3356cab1eab3e9fa335ca74d855e9deec729a (that link should all be on one line) Finally, a fragment of the first post-Festive Fifty show in 1988. I obviously recorded this to capture the Sugarcubes session, which I have not seen online before. The files are the correct number of bits but the slightest corruption causes CRC fails on extraction. MP3s are much easier as any minor corruptions are usually inaudible. Normally downloading on my alternate Sky Broadband rig avoids these errors. I've heard that downloading from Mediafire can corrupt rar files and that if the broadband provider caches these files, you may end up redownloading the same corrupt version. It has taken me 3 or 4 attempts using jDownloader to get an extractable version of these shows. I got fails with 4 of the files, currently I've managed to get good copies of all shows but the 28th Dec 1987. It might be easier just to upload large files as two mp3s as downloading is much more reliable. --- In peel@yahoogroups.com, rockerq@... wrote: > > > <<1987 Festive Fifty is complete, 5 x 2-hour shows. MF seems to be randomly corrupting uploads. I've just just sent the last 2 hours re-uploading 23/12 and 28/12, and confirmed that MF's copies are finally good. Please try again. None of the shows are exactly 2 hours long... these are my timings: 22/12: 1:59:44 23/12: 1:56:35 28/12: 1:56:57 29/12: 1:57:49 30/12: 1:59:50 ...so maybe these recordings are running a little fast too, although individual songs that I have other copies of are at the same pitch, as far as I can tell. I chose RAR this time round as the MP3s were too large for a single MF upload. I added recovery information to each archive but I guess that didn't work out so well. Without downloading them again, my impression is that the 45.2 mb file up there as 1980-3-24 John Peel Radio 1 (Incomplete).mp3 is actually the 11 March 1980 show (Pop Rivets session). The 11th (at least) was originally incorrectly named, presumably as the 24th, and presumably vice versa, and uploaded onto Gary's 30242 server. It looks like Bill then realised the dates were transposed and re-upped them onto Gary's server or renamed them. Before that happened, they had already been downloaded, and when the 30242 server became hacked, they were kindly re-upped onto the Mooo server, but with the original incorrect file names. That's my guess anyway! Stuart --- In peel@yahoogroups.com, "postscriptxyz" wrote: > > Thanks Steve and Stuart. Your guess is correct, the file names have been transposed. You'll see from the wiki that there are quite a few shows online from these years but also quite a few gaps in each year, sometimes lasting a month or two. So I'm sure that if you wished to share your work, there will be some great new stuff there, but by the same token you would not feel that to start the job you would be there forever, as it would be a case of gap-filling. Mixcloud - looks like a great idea for current DJs choosing from an approved track list, kind of a variant on the Spotify model. But I really can't see this startup company having negotiated royalties with every possible past and present performer and their record companies, not even Last or Spotify have managed that yet. I can't see that airing an old JP show with a barely identified, obscure, or in some cases, unannounced track from the early 1980s would trigger an automatic royalty payment to the proper recipient. Then there's the legality of rebroadcasting an old BBC radio show - especially if recording royalties are being examined on a track by track basis..... It would be possible already to create Spotify playlists and indeed some Festive 50 playlists have been created, but there are big gaps due to the non-universality of royalty agreements. PRS Repertoire Works • Key exclusions a) Repertoire where the composer is a direct member of the following societies may be excluded in certain circumstances: SACEM, GEMA b) Repertoire licensed by CELAS GmbH (EMI Music Publishing Anglo-American repertoire). Please note the licences covers the provision of music services to consumers in the UK only. Also many of the smaller bands including those who have done sessions may not have joined the PRS and retained copyright personally or with the Beeb, and would be excluded from the repertoire. The task of perfecting track listings for shows would be immense especially when trying to tie down those obscure tracks I mentioned and with no guidance to which catalogue numbers were being played - JP played personal imports, white labels etc and had an assistant to help keep the paperwork in order. Some tracks might need to be edited out of the shows including session tracks. Of course it may well be that the tracklistings only need to appear to be accurate, so it might be worthwhile doing a test upload and see what happens. Re posting via email, I have had problems also with the reply using my email program, I think it appeared either only on the yahoo group or only in the email distribution, but not both. Made a rough wiki listing a little while back to try and pull together info on TV stuff (this is part of the Reference section on the left menu of every page): http://peel.wikia.com/wiki/Peel_On_TV Still have to add a lot of references/pages for individual shows. There is a brief page for OGWT, which used to had the skiffle clip on a youtube link of OGWT stuff - which now seems to have been pulled. (The clip is itself was released as part of the OGWT vol 2 DVD compilation: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Old-Grey-Whistle-Test-DVD/dp/B0000AISIU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1266898714&sr=1-1) Will sub in the new Terry & Gerry youtube link on the OGWT wiki page.
