A late discovery...

Here's a show I found a few weeks ago. If you'd ever asked me id I'd taped the first broadcast of The Would-Be's session in early 1990 I would have denied it, but here it is. Listening to it now, however, it's obvious why I did: this was his first show after he'd been to Glasgow (with William) on I think the night of Friday 16 January 1990 to play records on a gig with Teenage Fanclub and Dawson at the Glasgow College of Technology, a promo launch night for what would later that year be the 'New Music Seminar' in Glasgow. I'd been peripherally involved with coordinating this event, and John and William stayed over with me afterwards. This is the night referred to in passing on p10 of my book. So I can now see why I taped it, and indeed there were some anecdotes and I got name-checked as 'top radio critic', which seeing as I was only writing in a music industry fortnightly at the time was very flattering. And in a spooky unforeseen further coincidence, I later ended up working at the 'Tech", after it was retitled Glasgow Caledonian University, and indeed am still there. Anyway, what matters is, it's another of those storming 90-minute shows from this short-lived short-show period. Enjoy.
