i particularly liked when a listener wrote into Radio 1 during the Peel tributes four years ago saying how fond he was of recalling John play a Springsteen track - possibly an exclusive - and Peelie's assessment of it as soon as it finished was to call it "powerfully average".

Dear Robert

Nice one, don't know about 'sweet'!, but it certainly sounds like
John. JP's dislike of Springsteen is well-documented (his diary refers
to Jon Landau's review stating that Springsteen was the future of
rock'n'roll: after seeing him in concert, Peel concluded that he was
'more a summary of its past'.) And yet...Ken notes that on the 5 and 6
June 1978, he played several tracks from 'Darkness On The Edge Of Town'.

Best wishes
Steve (so.it.goes. 2512)
