BBC Radio 1 started in 1967, transmitting on AM only (1214 kHz).
>From October 1971, in addition to AM transmissions, Radio 1 shared
Radio 2's FM frequencies (88.1-90.1 MHz) - this included the 10pm-
midnight weekday slot. Radio 1 was eventually allocated its own FM
frequency (97.6-99.6 MHz) - this was phased in across the country
between November 1987 and March 1990. Radio 1 AM transmissions
ceased in 1994.
