flac

Hi Andrew,

Here's an info page on FLAC:

http://flac.sourceforge.net/documentation_tasks.html

Basically, it's a lossless format, so is often thought to be most suitable for archiving
material, for minimal (maybe zero) loss of sound quality. If you use a player that doesn't
support it, you should be able to convert it pretty easily to whatever you use (mp3 etc) --
see page for conversion software links.

I'm no expert, but if you want to play stuff on an ipod I think you may need to covert it to
another format.

Personally, I'm good with mp3, but see the value of FLAC for the upcoming project. Alas,
probably can't contribute more than financially as I'm in Japan (postage no doubt
prohibitive) and only have a rotten old cassette player anyway.

Many thanks again to DeeDee and Rocker for sorting out the practicalities of getting hold
of the tapes for the group, and also to those who can contribute in terms of time and
effort for the ripping. Can't wait to find out what's on those tapes.

Cheers,

Steve W
