Hello guys!
thanks to Steve for his payment and for clearing up the confusion :
mike (underscore) hyde (at) hairyknees (dot) com
I guess Yahoo doesn't like us putting links about.
Hopefully now I have put the seller and Rocker in touch and he will collect the goodies over the next week.
I'll give you a heads-up when it looks like we have collected enough from our whip round. I don't want to make a profit out of this!
If by chance there's an overflow I'll donate it to Peel's choice of charity.
For the guy inquiring about FLAC - well, try Google for a start. My main point in suggesting FLAC is that with the volume of memory ever-increasing and it's price/physical size decreasing; I can see a near point in the future where we won't need to rip to lossy compression.
My Media Player and WinAmp both play FLAC recordings and I think now some (what we still refer to as) mp3 players do also.
Those guys that prefer a lossy version can use a simple free converter to create a mp3 from the original FLAC.
Cheers,
DeeDee

Ditto - Best way to pay? Purchase or personal?
Not sure how this works.
Will you get an acknowledgement showing our e-mail, name or e-bay name?
Phil

Ach!
My secret identity is now known!
Ladies and gentlemen - the Peel Group HAVE secured the archive for posterity!
I'll arrange with Rocker for collection and then he will arrange (with consultation with the group) the digitising and distribution.
Personally, I would like to see the tapes digitised in a lossless form such as FLAC for posterity's sake but let's have a debate about it as this is a democracy!
If anyone would like to contribute to the cost of these tapes then I welcome nominal payments of £20 to my PayPal account of:
mike_hyde@hairyknee s.com
If you don't have a PayPal account - don't worry about it. I prefer not to post addresses on the web for everyone to see. If there's a short fall then I'll cover it!
Oh happy day!
DeeDee

Astonishing! The winner is called Mike Hyde and is probably the same guy who posted a comment here
http://www.bbc. co.uk/6music/ shows/inthearchi ve/johnpeel. shtml
saying "Did the BBC record John's shows? I could see that a digital channel playing solely John Peel shows would work - Pay per listen perhaps. (Old shows are available on P2P guys! Check out eMule! Post your own old recordings there and maybe we can start our own virtual archive!)"
So..on that basis I would recommend contacting him via his ebay account congratulate him on his win and explain that there is an army of people on this list who would dearly love to help him with project to digitise the tapes & share them on the web...got to be worth a try
Maybe Ken should be the one to contact him to give the offer some credence?
