[peel] Missing In Action: The Lost Peel?

Dear friends,
In response to Steve's question, I taped a large proportion of the shows broadcast during the 90s and also few from the late 80s and the early 2000s.
These whole shows still exist on tapes in my loft and add up to hundreds of hours of JP goodness. As it stands, I have added approximately half the tracks broadcast and recorded to an Excel spreadsheet. This cataloguing work was hundreds of work hours behind when John died and I was so upset that I put the tapes away, never to touch them since.
I have been following the eBay story with interest and this has caused me to feel guilty that my collection is languishing in analogue form. I had always assumed that the shows I recorded are fairly readily available online but maybe not!
Although I cannot bear to part with my collection for charity or any other reason, perhaps if there is the demand we can find a way to get the collection digitised or otherwise more widely shared.
I would not claim all the recordings are perfect quality but the quality does get better as the years roll on due to better technology etc.
I am not particularly IT literate and have very little time what with a new baby in the house so doubt I will be able to digitise my collection very easily or quickly. If anybody wants to offer creative suggestions as to how we can utilise and share this material please respond/discuss on the board or PM me.
I live in Exeter and would consider lending part or all my collection over time to somebody who is prepared to do some or all of this work. I would do what I could to assist. However, there may be a different way of approaching the problem. Suggestions welcome!
I am happy to post a list of recorded shows when I get the chance but even this would be quite an undertaking and would take a week or two to put together.
As I said, responses welcomed.
With thanks,
Colin.

I'd very much echo this. Of all the decades, it seems to me like the 90s is perhaps the least well represented, which is a shame for me since the early to mid 90s were my own Peel halycon days. Exceptions to this is Phil Edwards' fantastic coverage of 1990 and 1991, and some assorted 1991-2 shows that have cropped up on here in the last 6 months or so. 1993-98 are pretty much universally barren save the odd show here and there, before the BBC went online in 1999/2000 and thus recording to MP3 became much easier. Whilst I was happy to contribute to the recent ebay excitement, I'd have probably shelled out the £500 myself if the period on offer was 1990-1995!

Fellow PeelitesAll the recent excitement over the box of tapes prompted me to reinvestigate my catalogue of Peel shows, and it staggers me to reflect on how little of his output seems to be available. Like the rest of you, I have been downloading all the files kindly put up by the members here, and Dee Dee's epic torrents. Yet some years are conspicuous by their absence.Leaving aside the ubiquitous Festive Fities and the years 1971-4, which Ken has already told us are not even present aside from a handful of shows at the BBC, I have nothing from 1976 (barring the Punk Rock Special), only 1 show from 1983, nothing from 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, one from 1993, one from 1995, and one from 2000...whereas 2001-4 are extremely well represented by the Web.Didn't people tape Peel in those years, or have I missed a flotilla of ships? I'm looking forward to the tapes as a way of filling in some gaps, but what about these 'lost' years?Best wishesSteve [Teenage Kicks]...now back in full effect
