I'm not after the session itself as I bought the CD when it was released and found the unreleased track on Soulseek a few years back. I'm more after the whole show for sentimental reasons. I can vividly remember listening to it not long after splitting up with a girlfriend and whilst counting down the days till I could leave the shitty job I had at the time. First time I ever heard BOC - needless to say I've bought most of their stuff since. Don't have much to trade Peel wise I'm afraid - I guess I took for granted he'd always be there. Did record off the odd session if I knew a band or artist I liked was going to be on. Think I've got bits of the Pulp at Peel acres show somewhere, and a lot of the Dave Clarke stuff for example. Do have a lot of Essential Mixes though these are all pretty easy to find these days. May be able to help out with something though... Cheers, Ed. From thebarguest@... In-Reply-To: Message-ID: yes, Walters was born 11 July 1939, 7 weeks before Peel. His widow Helen and Chris Lycett both told me he'd just turned 62 when he died in 2001. A terrible shock. As Lycett wrote in his personal tribute at the time, they'd just celebrated the digitising of the peel session archive and he seemed to be thriving. Peel phoned me up the night Walters died, clearly just working through his address book, and It was clear to me he had to keep talking to stop himself sinking further, he was in a very distressed state but keeping it just under control. Walters' legacy is that he helped keep the most important music show on BBC Radio on air as long as it was, and seized the tide of events as fast as anyone could ken --- In peel@yahoogroups.com, "Rob Brewer" wrote: > > On Mon, Apr 7, 2008 at 11:18 PM, Eddie Duffy > wrote: > > Wikipedia wrong, eh? I've not had a chance to dig through all the old postings yet so, if this has been posted before please forgive me, but the new Grant Gee/Jon Savage documentary on Joy Division has a wonderful section where an audio clip is played of Peel playing the new (March 1980) Sordide Senitimental single at 45rpm ....when of course it was a 33 rpm release despite it being a 7 inch single. Realising what he's done Peel laughs and then goes on to slate the French for their cardboard tasting apples and makes a few other inappropriate (but very funny) comments that would never be tolerated by the BBC today! I can recommend the documentary by the way. I wish I still had my C120 cassette tape of the Peel show in 1980 that featured an Undertones and Delta 5 session. Cheers Martin From newdawnfades61@... I discovered in Ken Garner's Peel Sessions book that one of my favourite underrated groups, Done Lying Down had actually recorded 4 Peel sessions (rather than the 2 I recalled). Does anyone have recordings of them? The whole show would be brilliant as I'd like to hear John's comments on the tracks (as well as what else he might have played on those nights), but failing that, the sessions alone would suffice! As I said I have no surviving recordings of Peel shows, I was very much a "tape, listen, record over the tape" person, though I do have digital copies of Lammo and Mary Anne Hobbs on the 2 nights following the announcement of Peel's death - but I should imagine most people have these too! The first broadcast dates of the shows in question are 1/1/94 17/9/94 2/3/96 10/9/97 . Thanks in advance! From stuart@... Sat Apr 19 09:59:55 2008 From: stuart@... Has anyone got any of the sessions by 3D a Fish in Sea (sometimes written as just "3D" or "3D a Fish in C" (it's supposed to be "three d efficiency" geddit?) from Liverpool in the mid-eighties. Their claim to fame seems to be that they were the band who had most Peel Sessions - three - without ever being signed to a label. I had two of them on tape, which were stolen when my flat was burgled twenty years ago. There's precious little information about this band on-line. Another hard to track-down session is a Seething Wells one from 1982 (I think) - lots of rants about Tetley Bittermen and the police. Swells writes a regular column for the Guardian these days from his home somewhere in the USA but I can't find the session - or anything else (apart from the pisspoor Intolerance Tape). Finally, are there any UK Decay fans here? There's some very interesting news at www.ukdecay.co.uk Ciao from Italy David From martinw@... Wed Apr 23 19:28:24 2008 From: martinw@... However, I'm currently in Mexico with no immediate plans to return, you'd need to be really patient. It's probably just the session tracks, although I may have kept the links as well. Let me know if you are interested, and next time I'm "home" I'll dig it out. Missed the Hitchers session though as I'd left the UK 10 days earlier - but I have a feeling that I've got some of their sessions somewhere - again, not with me. And if you'd like to help us keep the stream running, check out the advertisers if they appeal to you; your interest actually helps fund us. Now then, in addition to the outstanding Altrok Radio music mix that got us an Editor's Pick nod at Live365 and at About.com, we've added features we know you'll like... Mondays at 11:30am Eastern (with a preview at 0730 GMT) you get to hear Sean Carolan (often referred to in these dispatches as "me") showcase the new music we've added this week on the Altrok Radio FM Showcase. New stuff, classic stuff, and Jeff Raspe with his Altrok Radio Underground Pick Of The Week... And on Friday, it's Altrok's Eighties Friday: music from the eighties that mattered then AND now. An eight hour playlist that features some of the best that decade had to offer, drawing from all the music that was available at the time (yes, even from the seventies.) But for now - we've got songs to let you know about. This week, our Grinders (the stuff we play heavily) include music from: - British Sea Power - Hot Chip - The Breeders - Does It Offend You Yeah - The Mystery Jets - Tokyo Police Club Plus we've got newly-added music: - Be Your Own Pet - Creepy Crawl - Broken Records - If The News Makes You Sad Dont Watch It - The Courteeners - Not Nineteen Forever - Death Cab For Cutie - I Will Possess Your Heart - Pat DiNizio - Any Other Day - The Fall - Is This New - Hadouken! - Get Smashed Gate Crash - The LK - Stop Being Perfect - Nine Inch Nails - Discipline - Plugs - That Number - The Presets - This Boy's In Love - The Ting Tings - Fruit Machine - Twisted Wheel - She's A Weapon - XX Teens - How To Reduce The Chances Of Being A Terror Victim Our Newly-Added Classics: - Julian Cope - Me Singing - Joe Jackson - Pretty Boys - Japan - Quiet Life - Meat Beat Manifesto - 10 X Faster Than The Speed Of Love - New Order - Leave Me Alone - Siouxsie And The Banshees - Israel - The Sound - Wildest Dreams - The The - My Heart Would Know - The Wonder Stuff - Don't Let Me Down, Gently - Sean Carolan Altrok Radio On your computer now at http://www.altrokradio.com On the radio Fridays at 10pm, at 90.5 The Night From wewalkforonereason@... Problem is, however, I cannot access those files, as DivShare has somehow amended its policy earlier which disallowed access from part of Asia, including Hong Kong where I am in. Any clue how I am going to work around it, or anyone out there to help posting those files elsewhere? Sorry for the trouble. I too am stuck with not being able to access divshare in Hong Kong. I think their "wall" spreads to many other countries in the region. Can't tell you how frustrating this is.
