Forgotten Fifty: The Festive Fifty (actually 61) of 1977 revealed

john just loved Dancing The Night Away as a pop single and so did
Sheila; he was also very pally for a time with Bram Tchaikovsky, I
seem to remember. What I like and admire about the Forgotten Fifty is
precisely that records now or even then deemed essential are here
accorded a different place in the hierarchy, according to Peel's
taste, and (partly no doubt) desire to build 4 mixed radio
programmes. In this respect I feel it suggests more about the feel of
the Peel shows that year than, say, do some later Festive 50s. I'm
really glad Adrian, John, Stu and Jimmy pushed me to look into it,
because I would never have done so otherwise, given all the other
stuff that was more pressing for the book. - k
