(http://leesrailwayphotos.fotopic.net/p27591754.html for the curious. my photos are smaller but worse so i've linked to a good one) took home a bunch of dandelion radio mp3s to listen to but only got as far as 4 of december's shows. still, the 2nd hour of Rockers is still going to cost me about 30 quid when i get to the record shop next so... (burial, trojan dub rarities (was disappointed by the ska rarities but...), grim fm) morrison's festive fifty trawl was great and the christmassy show was perfectly christmassy. (does Rocker have a Flying Saucer Attack connection btw? there's someone called Rocker that gets a credit on their lps. could be a coincidence but there's a geographical possibility) mtv2 showed peel's all-time festive fifty videos over christmas. it must've been a repeat but seemed to be the all-time chart he did for 2000 (teenage kicks at 2, ceremony at 1). missed the first 20 but caught the end of it - nice to see those pj harvey videos again though. andy From roger.carruthers@... Yeah - Worked with FSA for a couple of years in the late 90s - on the recording side though, not in the live band due to other gigging commitments I had at the time! I still occasionally bump into Dave FSA(retired) and when I do I encourage him to get his musician head back on! Keep buying the records! That Trojan Dub Rareties set is a triple CD but worth it as almost every track is a previously unknown (to me at least) classic - in fact on the strength of it I've also gone out and bought the other two Dub box sets - all good stuff - shame they're not on vinyl though! Have been working through the rareties box on my dandelion show - one track a month, so still plenty to go! With the festive 50 now streaming once or twice a day we are experiencing quite heavy traffic on the dandelionradio.com site - we are trying to bump up our capacity so if anyone cannot connect just try again later! - The 50 will be on with our normal shows throughout January! So far I've edited this lot: CD 1 I've called Bits of Peel and its one I put together for Andy Kershaw. It has some music, but mainly snippets of peel chat between tracks. CD2 is called John Peel Reggae and has him introducing various classic reggae stuff. CD3 is twenty Peel trailors for the alan freeman programme from 76/77/78. Hilarious stuff with John Walters! When I was looking to help promote a CD launch by Kevin Coyne I used the search engine to see who was playing his music as a way of targeting who to send the CD to but gave up checking as the list was never updated. I have just checked again and there are no updates since mid way thru last year - airplay that I knew took place is just not there. Tony ps Look out for the forthcoming Coyne tribute CD featuring Nikki Sudden, Alternative TV, Jowe Head, Jackie Leven and various Mekons. michael stoecker wrote: Does anyone know if Radio 1 has intentionally stopped maintaining their Peelie page? Under the terms of their agreement with the copyright authorities the BBC are only allowed to put full music files up for streaming if they have broadcast them in the last 7 days and not allowed to put them up for download at all. The excerpts on the Peel site are as far as they can go without paying out huge sums of money I doubt they feel the potential audience would justify the rebroadcast of old Peel shows apart from the odd special occasion like 6Music's Christmas broadcast (but that wasn't originally BBC material anyway) martinw From hubcity@... And if you'd like to help us keep the stream running, check out the advertisers if they appeal to you; your interest actually helps fund us. Now then, in addition to the outstanding Altrok Radio music mix that got us an Editor's Pick nod at Live365 and at About.com, we've added features we know you'll like... Thursdays at 11:30am Eastern (and repeated at 11:00pm), Ferris O'Brien hops aboard the Altrok Radio signal to give you a taste of his approach to the world of alternativity. In-Reply-To: Message-ID: Todd, Thanks! You caught me at a weak Ultravox moment, though - you missed "Slow Motion" a few weeks back, not to mention "When You Walk Through Me", "Wide Boys" and "ROckwrok". Thought it was time to give their second lead singer a bit of air ;o) (Though I have to say, ROckwrok is a pain to get aired on US radio - I had to substitute a second "bark" in the chorus lyrics to pass content muster. Wait'll they get a load of Dustin's Bar Mitzvah's "Get Your Mood On"...) I'll take that request for "Artificial Live", though. The point of all this, though, is to (a.) show what I'm adding to the web station's library on a given week, and (b.) subtly suggest to my station's program and music directors that they should add more of this sort of thing to our terrestrial station's playlist. And so far, I'd say the station's playing more Foxx-era Ultravox than almost any station in the US. (Not to mention Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip.) And though it's by no means anywhere near as close to the depth you'd get on an average Peel show (not to mention Marcelle's or Dandelion Radio's) my hope is to be a conduit where some more obscure things can bubble up before a slightly wider audience. (Again, nowhere near as wide as the one Peel enjoyed on Radio 1, but you do whatcha can...) Besides, Sparks rocks. Go to their MySpace page; they had a new album ("Hello Young Lovers") out last year, and it was a lot of fun. -Sean -----Original Message----- From: peel@yahoogroups.com [mailto:peel@yahoogroups.com]On Behalf Of thebarguest Sent: Tuesday, January 16, 2007 11:51 AM To: peel@yahoogroups.com Subject: [peel] Re: [OT] [Altrok] Update #143: Support Your Local Web Radio Station! For years, this group has been about sharing, and continues to be so. These days I'm more a reader than an "active" member of the group, but have done my share in the past of being part of a chain of receiving, copying and re-distributing Peel shows. A lot of this effort is now no longer needed with the likes of the mighty Phil Edwards And His Magic Server, managing and maintaining such a mammoth store of shows for your FREE enjoyment. It may be that you, Malkmus, could genuinely do with a bit of cash. God knows I myself over the past few months have looked around at things I can consider selling when I don't think I'll make it over the finishing line of pay-day. However, this is not the place. I remember a bunch of us, roughly two years ago I think, getting together to organise the creation of a DVD set of John Peel Festive Fifties to undergo a Peel group-based chain of copy-distribution, largely because we objected to someone making something similar available on eBay. We felt it was wrong. It was then and it still is today. (Having said this, the DVD project never got out of the blocks, or at least if it did it was without my involvement.) So, if you want to get help form someone in the group to digitise your MiniDiscs for wider FREE distribution, perhaps via Phil's server, then you have our full support. If, however, you still wish to get cash for your MiniDiscs, can I suggest your local pub. Best regards, Neil Phil Edwards wrote: I think that goes against the ethos of the group. Unfortunately, of course, those recordings were without John's introduction. Regarding Marcelle's questions about John's introduction on Vinyl/CD, I can immediately recall two - one is the Peel session of Toten Hosen, which I believe was only released in Germany; and the other one which is more available is Government Commissions by Mogwai - although that was confined to just a few words in the first track. Plugins - I shit 'em!? yes, ctrl-u made a complete mockery of 'we can only stream this'. thanks for pointing that out, eddie. gig was the other bits that they couldn't fit into show 11 by the sound of it although, oddly, some of the links were the same. unfortunately nobody introduced their songs so all i have is a bunch of "???" for titles. have added myspace and slashmusic links to the listing (slashmusic have changed their link style, from alphanumeric ids to band names, which is annoying given i have 50 or so of the old style). that third icon is meant to be a spider but suffers from being 14x14 pixels. um, all those need redoing. and IE doesn't seem to understand width:600px. or transparent pngs. anyway, updates. andy http://www.koogy.clara.co.uk/slashmusic/
