Song searches from Peel shows

Hello to all.
   
  A couple of people on a music forum I visit have mentioned songs that they heard on the John Peel show back in the day and yes, now they'd like to know the artist and song title. Here's what they remember:
   
  1. The listener remembers the line, "tonight I did a terrible thing". He writes,
   
  "must have been late 80's/early 90's. female singer and for some reason i think the band might have been from liverpool. john peel certainly played a couple of tracks by them. 
   
  the lyrics i have in my head are 

tonight i did a terrible thing 
i don't know what came over me 
?? 
?? 
only to find you see through my lies 
?? 
forgetting how well you know me 

it's not important but i will lose my mind if you can't help"

  2. Patient #2 writes:
   
  "What song are these from, and by whom?..It was a song i taped off John Peel years ago and it seemed to consist of a madman screaming insane lyrics while his equally mad trumpeting friend goes berserk in the background..anyway 

Don't Take me for Granite 
Because i'm feeling a little bolder 
I've got funny little men with rucksacks, 
Climbing up my shoulder

I remember Peel playing it a lot at the time. Mid-late 80s.
