From crazytonyi@... Sat Mar 4 07:45:05 2006 From: crazytonyi@... (Anthony) Date: Sat, 04 Mar 2006 06:45:05 -0000 Subject: Festive 50 Broadcasts Message-ID: I have most of the Festive 50 Broadcasts from 1986-2000. I'm missing 91, 97, and 99. Also, I only have the All time for 2000, so I guess I'm missing the regular one for that year. I'm still new to the Peel scene, so I was wondering if anyone could answer a few questions for me. * Is this the right place to look for this kind of stuff? * Was there a 2000 broadcast of the yearly list, or was the list just released and only the best of broadcast? * Does anyone on this site have the broadcasts or have any intrest in having them? I'd love to share and I have the above mentioned years broken up into mp3s. They are not perfect (aka there are missing bits between songs) but all the intros and what not are there. * Does anyone (I know it's a long shot) have recordings of the phantom 50 of 1992. Meaning does anyone have any of the three at a time releases over that year? Or even if you can tell me the dates of the shows so I can try to find them and cut them out. Obviously what I'm going for is having all of the Festive 50 broadcasts. Not so much for the music, which is great and I have most of it, but just to have the shows themselves. Anything would help and like I said, if anyone is looking for broadcasts, I can share what I have. Thanks From troche@... Sat Mar 4 22:42:26 2006 From: troche@... (Tom Roche) Date: Sat, 4 Mar 2006 16:42:26 -0500 Subject: The Weddos Message-ID: We were fortunate enough to have The Wedding Present play Atlanta last night, and what a corker of a show it was. The boy Gedge can always be found in the little merchandise corner before showtime hawking his wares, and I visited for awhile. I reminded him I'd spoke to him at Peel's wake when he'd said he was planning a US tour that was to not include Atlanta. I urged him to reconsider, but he said last time, '97 or so, there'd not been much of a turnout. I insisted this time there would be even though I had no clue. So I he was happy to see a full house, and as the throng calling out for all sorts of hits and obscurities, Gedge would say from the stage " thats a good one" and "yes that's a good one too" and "oh, right, another good one" and then arms outstretched and head bowed diva-like he chirped sardonically "oooh such a burden to have written all these WONDERFUL SONGS." But he's right, each one a densely packed noisy classic. Nary a clunker in the lot. I haven't followed the Cinerama breakup gossip and don't care, they are great songs all, expansive and claustrophobic at the same time. They head up to now NC,DC,NYC, Boston, etc. Within 15 seconds of leaving the stage's side he stealthily darted thru the oblivious crowd and was back at the table drenched in sweat on his social & mercenary quest. Really, 15 seconds. By the way I did ask just what did he listen for radio enjoyment/education now that Peel was gone and he said not much and we agreed there is and will be no substitute. 6 Music comes somewhat close he said. He also said he'd been on a tour around Bury and rang up Peel acres recently and was invited to pop by. Everything of John's still pretty much untouched and days less hectic with the book completed. tom From iangwilson@... Sun Mar 5 00:20:46 2006 From: iangwilson@... Anyone interested in having them can find a torrent of them here: http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3453169. I'm happy to post a couple of copies out to anyone who isn't at ease with downloading torrents and hopefully they could then pass on copies to others if required? Alternatively you can always wait for our friend to make them available on ebay ;-) The previous 3 batches of shows are still being seeded on Pirate Bay if anyone still needs them Phil From nwobble@... (Thanks again for your help guys) I don't have it personally yet, as the guy who started the project is compiling it all, and it may take some time. We have collected the tracks rather than the shows, and considered having Peelie talking at at either end of a track a bonus, but not essential, as it proved quite difficult to get many earlier tracks. If no-one here can help, I would suggest looking up some blogs that specialise in Peel shows. There are a few good ones out there, so maybe worth a search. If there are any odd track I can help with I will, but I don't have any actual shows personally. --- In peel@yahoogroups.com, "Anthony" wrote: > > I have most of the Festive 50 Broadcasts from 1986-2000. Saturday July 1st 1967 at 3PM in the afternoon on Radio London. This is not a 'Perfumed Garden' rather a regular Sat afternnon show. Its curious because its, sort of, a joint co-hosting with Keith Skues. The music is mostly regular Radio London Top 40 stuff: Hollies, Roy Orbison, John Walker (Walker Bros), but our man does get a little enthusiastic when he plays Doors 'Light My Fire'. It is also full of commercials, including one for a record shop in Norfolk, that Peel claims is the only one he had ever produced himself - lots of psych in the background and a strange voice (can it be him doing his best Radio London announcer voice??). Anyway the tape has had the music removed so it'd be a good reconstruction job of the kind that I've previously performed for the 5CD last night Perfumed Garden epic and a couple of others. Probably take me a while to round up good copies of some of those Top 40 obscurities played that night. But finally there should be about 1 hour of this radio show. Drop me a note off list if this sparks anyone's curiosity. But my real question is - are there any earlier surviving Peel recordings, anything from the San Bernardino era, or Dallas stints? Love to hear them if there are. GUY __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! One of our list members sent me a cd of Peel recently consisting of only Peel chat and on one of these sections he plays a recording of himself from Dallas (I think) which must be the earliest. In this recording he's not a deejay, he's an Englishman with a collection of unusual records which turn out to be blues and R&B. He plays a couple of these records but mostly witters on about how he got them in the famous strangulated public school voice which the later Peel mocks mercilessly. The section lasts about 10 minutes or so. Date not given - 1962? pb __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Tapes, wav or mp3 format, doesn't matter to me. I have some stuff to trade, mainly 80s F50s and various live tapes. Can anyone enlighten me ? Thanks Stuart Maclean, Seattle
